At the dock today.

After these past few weeks it was near perfect today. No wind and a ton of sunshine. For the past week we had some slushy ice building up around the dock but most of that melted today. Checked my two nets and decent amount of grass shrimp and a lot of sheepshead minnows. Ducks and cormorants made up the surface fleet. By mid afternoon our one waverunner dock had hundreds of minnows real active in the slimy weed that grows where it slopes into the water. Sun was strong there and the warm water pulled them in and got them real active. Only two months away from the return of the Laughing Gulls.

Almost time to start bottom painting the rentals isn’t it:D
going to the boat today and tomorrow to start prepping the bottom for paint!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Gonna run a hose out and start the engine and let her run for 5 min. I try to do this at least every month instead of winterizing. So far it worked for me over the last 3 years.

save this post for the fisherman mag., their segment where they print how it was years ago, lets say they print it 50 years from now, how will it compare to the current day? will there be grass shrimp and minnows in the bay in january................yeah i think so :)
did you get any of those sheeps for the tank Fred?
Yesterday a Barner stopped by for some grass shrimp. It was just about high tide but low tide is the best time for the shrimp. Still was able to pull about a thousand from the two drop nets plus a few sticklebacks. After the Barner left a few of us were still sitting here when we noticed a cormorant about twenty eet of our dock. Kept diving down but coming up empty beaked. Did another dive and came up with about a foot long eel. Slapped it around for about a minute then it slid right down like a strand o pasta. Did another dive and came up with some kind of fish about three inche long. Cold water, pouring rain and diving for eels. Got to give the cormorants credit even though I wish there were an unlimited hunting season on them.
barner

I,m afraid to ask but what is a "barner"? I hope it's not what I think

I see your new, welcome aboard !!!
You'll get the hang of the "barn" terminology as you continue to participate on here.
"Barner" = short for "Bass Barn Member"
Again welcome, this is an excellent community of fishermen (and ladies) that unselfishly share a their wealth of knowledge with those willing to learn. All you have to do is ask and I'm sure someone will steer you in the right direction.
