Went down to the Avalon Pier last Saturday, and I was really disgusted when I got there to find out that some A$% hole/holes threw the bench over the pier and into the water. That pier has gone down hill from the last two years. Someone lit the porta potty on fire last year, burnt part of the gezeebo, they throw skate and sharks on the pier and little floating dock next to it and let them die, not to mention when people get a bunch of sea weed on their lines, they just throw it on the pier. People leave their trash all over and yet there are 2 trash cans, but he thing about throwing the bench in the water really pissed me off. I have been going there for 9 years since I was 14 years old. I used to stay with my friend and his grandmother at her house which was down about 4 houses from the dead-end street. I have been very disgusted with what goes on there and some of the idiots that fish there-they have no respect for other fellow fisherman and no respect for the environment"fish" Since someone threw the bench in the water I won't be suprised that Avalon closes the pier down-and everyone will ***** "just like I'm doing now" and we'll all have to thank the idiots that ruin it for everyone. It always happens, you find a nice little fishing spot and some one has to do something real stupid and ruin it for everyone else. How many fishing piers/jettys have a porta potty within a 150' walking distance? Not many, if any one sees anything going on over there please speak up to them or call the police. Sorry for the long post, just had to get something off my chest.

Diehard, I totally agree. I don't know about your pier but I see all kinds of garbage along sod banks that I fish. I know that this isn't all from fishermen but when the trash is a wrapper for a Bomber? who do you think left it? I used to ride a bicycle a lot when I was in shape and people would throw things like pennies and even bottles out of their cars at me! Some people just cannot stand to see others enjoy themselves. I hope that your pier gets cleaned up. If you want to get a group together to do it, let me know.

Thediehard,
I have been in the Avalon Mannor section for over fourty years. The pier is really going down hill. The other night the marijuana smoke was so thick you could cut it with a knife. Don't say anything to those pot heads. Just leave and call the Middle Twp. PD. The pier is owned by the county. Soon they will be turning it over to Middle Twp.

Hey, I hear ya mole, if someones doing some illegal exrta curricular activities, I keep my mouth shut and slither away in the shadows, can't stand that crap. Its mostly the kids that mess the place up and light fires, Like I said, I've been going there since I was 14 now I'm 23 and it really bothers me to see such a nice place in that nice little community become an eyesore. I was thinking about writing to Avalon Twp or the county but would they really listen to a resident from Woodbury? or would they really listen to an Avalon resident. I know they wouldn't send a cop down there to baby sit from sun set to sunrise but something needs to be done. I bring my fiance there and she fishes with me and when I told her about the bench getting thrown in the water, it upset her. I usually fish there at night but lately the night crowd has been kinda rude and arrogant and I refuse to bring my fiance there now. I like fishing with the older generation during the day-very friendly, talkative, helpful and kindhearted folks, not to mention my fiance likes to listen to the older men's stories about fishing and Avalon in general. Now at night time you get cold looks, discomfort, and a sense that you don't belong there. I just don't want to be there when someone is destroying the place, doing drugs or killing "fun to catch" junk fish, If I could figure out who to write to and what exactly to write about to get something done I will, I'm seriously looking at writing a letter to Middle Twp, not just for me but for all the other fisherman who enjoy fishing there, the residents of Avalon Manor and to have that pier cleaned up by the Twp and not the residents cause it should be the Twp's job.

diehard, sic yakker, and mole,

I'm really bummed out to hear its that bad down there now. I learned to fish on that pier and my grandpop's dock on the manor. I used to love the laid back, secluded atmosphere that the manor had but that's definitely changed now. I mean i can remember when i was like 4 or 5 and fishing all over the place on the manor and i loved every minute of it. Guess those days are going out the window. Some people are just too selfish to leave nice things alone for everyone to enjoy. Man i'm extemely bummed by this news.

Dam sorry that was me and HIPKVW...We like to get all lit up and get the muchies, All the wrappers are from our Mcdonalds bags, they go all over the place. And one night while I went to get us food Hip took a temper tamptum and threw the seat over the rail....

kidding, have to make light of that unless your going to sit there and be the keeper of the pier.

Soon itll all change with them closing the Marina and building Condos there, Wonder what theyll do to the Gazebo them fence it all in so the public cant use it?????

Actually just left that area a few hours ago, only one truck there a Ford 150 burgandy with PA plates. got one 19" flatty on a rubba bait first cast!

It's a shame people are such pigs! We have the same problem at the 1/2 bridge on Grassy Sound. It is the same, county bridge being turned over to Middle Twp. A few creeps are going to ruin it for everyone. Last week we had our ice freezer destroyed and a vending machine destroyed. They ALWAYS leave a MESS for the county employees to clean up. We have the state police docked at the marina now which I think has helped. They come and go at all hours.

Middle Township will probably close the piers at night. A few will ruin it for everybody.

During the fall and spring, the night time at in coming tide is awesome for stripers, like you said they'll probably close the pier after 10pm. And that is my exact thought, when the marina goes and the huge houses or condos that go up, kiss fishing there good bye, it will probably be closed to the PUBLIC. That has been my favorite surf fishing spott(if you call pier fishing surf fishing) I'm really saving up hard to buy a nice little boat, a lot of public fishing places are being destroyed.
