My girlfriend and I are trying to plan a trip to the bahamas, and are looking to stay at place(preferably on the beach) that is nice and not too pricy. I was hoping to get some feedback about Andros, but any island will work. She wants to chill on the beach and i want to fish. Any feedback is appreciated.

FF-
My opinion- The Bahamas is not my favorite island. Been there a few times. Very slow pace- which is what you want, but you about die before you get a drink or your dinner. Guess it depends on where you stay.

Me and the missus went to Tortolla- which is a British V.I. and we loved it. Stayed right on the water- I mean righton the water. A charter boat had to come from St. Thomas to take us sail fishing. Did pretty good. We could have also rented a small boat and even a guide to show us around the island and fish on the way.

Hope this helps.

Here's where we're staying in May. It's in the Abacos. We stayed there for two weeks last year and loved it. 1000 feet of water a mile or two off the beach, great coral, clear water, excellent snorkelling etc... We never waited for drinks or dinner very long. The pace was casual but we were not in a hurry either.

Right on the water with a dock for $800/week. Also check out www.dolphinbeachresort.com or anything on Elbow Cay. Prices are good at all places. You can rent a boat from one of about a dozen places in the area, too. You have to have a couple of drinks at www.nippersbar.com also. Have fun.

Fly Chalks from Ft Lauderdale or Miami into Walkers Cay and take a boat over to Rosies nearby. Will cost you about $75 a room/ $525 for the week.

An alternative is to fly into West Palm and take a puddle jumper (don't take Aliya Airways) from West Palm to airport at West End. Take a taxi to Bottle Bay Resort (www.bootlebay.com) and stay in a bungalow for about $80 a nite. Ask for Cecil(?) Boats and tackle are readily available and you can always take a taxi to Lucaya for the casinos and gawking cruiseship tourists. Fishing from Bootle is phenomenal; south for tuna and big pelagics or north to Memory Rock for grouper & snapper bottom fishing.

Catch
