I bought a birdless speader bar a couple years ago and would like to add a bird to it to keep it on top. Can I do this simply by attaching the bird to the line in front of the bar, or must the bird be attached to the bar as with the Sterling Tackle spreaders?

Bump. I'd also like to hear others opinions on how the bar would swin with the bird in front and not attached to the bar. I built my own a couple weeks ago and am wondering if it will swim correct?

On the Sterling Tackle bars the bird acts like trim tabs and keeps the bar on the surface unless it flips over then it dives like a big stretch! Putting a bird if front of a bar is not going to "trim out" the bar it just going to add more action IMO.

You can put birds in front of the leading squids then a foot or two of line then connect to the bar. The bar rides out of the water but you can run it much further back than a standard bar. I have ha much more success with these than the bird bars where the bird is molded around the bar
