Perhaps the offshore or Delaware Bay forum would be a better place to put this....this is the surf fishing forum....but welcome to the Barn!
Dad - welcome!

how much are you willing to spend - do you want spin or conventional? for bait or lures primarily?

Like Red said the other forums would be better but we'll help ya if we can.
what kind of fishing will you be doing? beating around the bay, or reef fishing out in the ocean? what species are you targeting? you need to figure this out before you settle on a rod/reel combo. Ugly sticks are relatively inexpensive and take a beating, and I like conventional reels with braided line when I fish because we go in 40 - 70 ft depths and the extra sensitivity is great.
To intorduce myself, I have been fishing since I was 5 and surf fishing for the last six years off of LBI. I have been on party boats for blues etc.

Looking for stripers. Both bait and lures.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
Just notice the spelling of introduce. Should there not be a spell check?
no spell check - we arent anal here I would not worry about your spelling - we dont have a bunch of internet english professors on here bottomline - people dont harp on spelling or grammar here
Hey, DTF, I build my own rods, and I was looking to build an all-around striper/weakie/flounder rod for boat use. I posted a question on a rod-building forum I belong to, and the guys there all recommended Lamiglas (including, of course, the Lami rep on the board).

If you want a boat rod, you really can't go wrong with the Lami inshore series, and you don't have to build it yourself - they're readily available as factory rods.

And for what it's worth, I'll be pairing my boat rod with a Penn International Baitcasting 965 reel, and spooling it with Ande braid. Just my 2 cents...
DTF, welcome to the Barn. I would go with a 7ft medium action quality rod that pairs well with a Shimano Baitrunner 3500, this reel is so versatile, and could be used on your surf rods too.
I have one on a 7ft Penn Slammer, which is a pretty decent cheap rod, that I have had for 11 or 12 years now. Depending on what you want to spend, My two favorite are the St Croix inshore series or the Star Stellar Light rods, both are two very high quality rods that would be a good choice.

If you don't own a Baitrunner yet, please go out and get one, you will love this reel.
Thank you all for the welcome.

all good reccommendations. DJC- I have seen the baitrunners and like them as well. Until my Penns die I'm a little stuck. They are good reels and very dependable. However the baitrunners are inviting. Maybe I'll put the Penns up for sale.

I think I will put a lillte more money away and get the Lami's.

Thanks again and see you on the beach.
I am going to shoot this off to The Home Port Forum, you may get a little more info there.
Lamis are Nice. alot of good choices in their line of blanks
Go with the Penn International 965 with a St Croix rod. Just bought one myself for this season. Can't go wrong here.
DTF-Welcome to the Barn-I bought Lamiglas Triflex BL6625C put a PennInt 975-30lb Powerpro-Love it. Bought if from BobETC-at East Coast Tackle-Pleasure doing business with him,and he threw in a couple of freebies.
DLafferty-DTF here. What model St. Croix do you have?
YOU CAN PICK UP A 7FT PENN SLAMMER WITH A PENN 320GTI AT WALMART FOR 120.00. GOOD ALL AROUND FOR STRIPER DRUM BLUES AND OK FOR DEEP WATER FLOUNDER.
ITS NOT THE BEST OUT THERE BUT NOT BAD FOR THE MONEY.
DTF, the st croix blanks (rods) that are popular are the saltwater SWC70 MF series..and some guys like the "musky" series 2M70MF. usually in 7 or 7'6" ..the SWC is geared more toward saltwater.
