Boat runs aground on LBI
From Press staff reports

LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP - Thick fog caused an Indiana man and his 43-foot sailboat to become grounded here Saturday morning, according to township police.

Thomas Gregory, of Bloomington, Ind., hit a dense patch of morning fog and became disoriented and got caught in the surf, police said.

The State Police and the Coast Guard, along with local police, responded to a distress call shortly before noon Saturday.

Gregory was traveling with three others from Cape May to Barnegat Light, police said.

No injuries were reported. The boat was towed off the 57th Street beach around 4 p.m. Saturday and taken to Barnegat Light, police said.

It is unclear how much the boat, described by police as a Mason sailboat, was damaged.
