What's the best way to set your waterline on a hull that's never been painted.Do you put it the water and hope there's a scum line that goes all the way around the hull.

Thanks,

Splash her, let her sit, loaded, mark the scum line, pull her, clean her, prep her, and and paint.
Hopefully thereafter you do not keep adding gear.
At the end of the year i think I pulled about 200 lbs of lead off the boat, along with 12 Rubbermaid container that accumulated...
Also, in cleaning out the Hatteras, took off 22 bags of 30 year accumulated junk, and she went up an inch or 2....

HA! ha! - I needed a good laugh.....
You laugh Joe, but I've seen that done several times and it does work...when I was living in the Keys..

But, understand the bottom still needs preped. Mold release wax needs to be removed.. Lots of clean rags, lots of acetone and you only push the wax off in one direction. After that sanding the bottom..

Getting a boat bottom right for bottom paint is a real project even if the boat 20yrs old..
