had no trouble filling the livewell this morning the harbor was loaded with bunker. Got out to the western side of the bay before the fleet showed up and between the four of us we landed and released a half dozen bass between 28 and 40 inches (two of them large cows). We were live lining for an hour or so with no hits until my partner started to chunk and that was the ticket today. The bite was early and by 930 am there must of been 10 party boats from as far as belmar around us. Nice when the fish are right in front of your marina (last year we were sailing to jones beach). U.S. tackle reported a 53 lb bass caught off the staten island surf last night. Its getting interesting out there.

Pretty wild that belmar boats ran up. The bay bite vary's from year to year. After a good year like this some charters will get spring slips for next year. But after a slower spring or two they stay south.
I'm sure a lot more fish ( and bigger ones) are entering the hudson right now but that is less convenient to fish. When the bass show up in the bay there are so many fisherman that they quickly get hammered by the locals and word spreads. then the place becomes a parking lot.
