Do I have to lay the line out in the sun or can I just take it all out and put the line dressing on it? They have been on the reels and havnt been cast since last year.

If put away clean you should be okay with a good stretch. Cast them SOON.

Hip, good to hear you are coming out of retirement. Hope you can get out there and get into some fish. Some of the long time fly guys should have the answer. What Ron said sounds right.

As Ron noted, stretching the fly line will help a lot in getting the tight coils out of the line. If you have a helper, just take 10' sections at time and apply steady force to the line for about 5-6 seconds. If you don't have help, just loop the line around the roll bar on your jeep, again taking about 10' at a time. Dressing the line after the stretch can't hurt.

Keith,
I think I'm taking over your vacant spot in the retirement hole.... ;)

A good stretch will be fine. Dressing them too will be even better, but it's not really required.

Best way to stretch the line is with a nice fat fish on the other end... ;)
