All Members and All Fishermen That Fish the
9th.Street Causeway heading into Ocean City,N.J. ..
This Is It,, MOST FISHING ACCESS WILL SOON BE DENIED.Unless We Do Something Together Now..

We are down to the wire as far as commenting
our concerns about what fishing access we will
be left with after the new Super Highway/Bridges
are Completed...
We need to make it clear that we are concerned
that the fishing access will not be the same with
the new causeway proposal as with the old.

We Need to Contact the Following...
Letters & Emails NEEDED <<<<A.S.A.P.>>>>
we may have saved the Striped Bass Season
with this approach, maybe we can save some
existing structure (Bridges)and created some
fishable piers here

*The Comment Period Deadline is Oct.13 for
USAOC.Remember,Public Access is the Big Issue.

Brief on Main Issues:

Try and save Elbow and Rainbow Bridges.
If not, save Elbow Bridge for Fishing and Access
to Sedge Island on West Side of Elbow.
Need adaquate access sites with fishing piers that
are of appropriate sizes and made of concrete on
all four thorofares(Ship,Elbow,Rainbow & Beach).
Sizes etc,can also be discussed...
Most important thing to say is,,,,,,,We Need-
ACCESS,ACCESS,ACCESS,ACCESS & MORE ACCESS...

Now,I Know ALOT of Fishermen that fish this
area from March thru December. And Its A Great
Place To Catch some very nice Stripers.....
Believe I Know,I have Caught My Share....
Whether you fish this place by land or
by boat, you will never experience again what
we have here after this project is completed.
And You WILL BE AFFECTED>>>>>>>>>
But maybe we can SAVE some Existing Structure,
maybe we can Build a Decent Fishing Pier,
maybe we can still acces the SodBanks etc....
But we need to do something now,or it will
be too late come next season.........

Thanks UpFront On This Important Fishing
Access Situation....

I know someone who saw the prints of this new
super highway. He said there were several fishing
piers in the plans that can be accessed from mini
ramps off the bridge. I haven't seen them myself,
but would be curious if anyone else saw something
similar. From what was desribed to me, there
is no need for concern. I'm sure we'll lose access
while the bridge is being constructed...is this the
major concern now. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Again, I have no first hand knowledge, just relaying
what was told to me. Thanks nightstrikes for keeping
us all informed!

Brent ,
Yes I Saw Them, and Yes There is Reason to
be concerned....
Right Now the New Piers that have been designed
are to short,60-100'.
And in the Wrong Direction,in the case of
the Rainbow Pier it will run West To East
along where the existing flat bridge is..
This will what give the best access at the
very end, thats it.. How about maybe a
45 degree angle heading in a NE Direction
on the West side of Rainbow or a SW Direction
on the East Side.. This Will Give Anglers
More Access to the Deeper Water...

Most Important thing here is, the LOST of
the Existing Structure, Elbow & Rainbow
Channel Bridges.. The Reason so many Bass
Hold in these area's are because the them..
We very well might be able to Save Elbow
Bridge, but it looks like Rainbow will be gone
for good soon..

Doesn't that figure. It would be nice if the
contractors consulted fisherman to determine
how to place the piers. Again, thanks for the
update. I fish that area all the time! I caught
my first 30"+ striper in one of the affected
channels. I'd hate to see it go :(

Brent,
This Very Well Might Be In The Works,
Sort of a Little Tour Is Planned ;)

This is the Object of this Post,, Nothing
Is Set In Stone Yet Here,Getting Close...
But Unless We
Get Some Kind Of Response From the Fishermen
Who Fish This Area With Their Ideas We Very
Well Might End Up With Something Useless to
the Serious Fishermen.....

Well you know my e-mails are on there way out Steve, I hope with a little bit of pushing on our part we can save some of the exsiting structure. I have fished this area many a night and would hate to see it dissapear right before my eyes as did the Corsons Inlet Bridge or the Longport/OC Bridge

Nightstrikes,
Hi. I've never written to you before. I know you only through your excellent fishing reports and posts. (from two sites)
I really appreciate all of the info that you've shared. Your posts were the main factor that influenced me to join this great site. (the other was some of the Barners that I met at Taylors party)
Time constraints keep me from writing, participating in your functions and even fishing as much as I'd like. Reading the posts gives me a lot of pleasure and fuels my passion for the times I am able to fish.
And when I'm able to get out and fish- 95% of my time is spent around OC and the causeway. It's the only area in SJ that I'm familiar with. I've fished there for about 9 yrs.
So the topic of this post is of special importance to me. I will be glad to help by E-mailing the names you have listed on the issue of ACCESS. A few questions if I may- Should I write just as an individual:how much I spend, freqency of visits and that fishing that specific area is my only reason for coming there? Or should I write that I am one of hundreds/thousands of people that I'm aware of from experience- member of two fishing groups that have multitudes of anglers that share my concerns regarding access? Which would you prefer? I don't have much experience doing such correspondence-so perhaps you can tell me which choice would be most effective.
I really laud the efforts of you, the Barners and the other site I am a member of for the efforts and successes in influencing the powers that be.
The organized power of the people is a beautiful thing. I'd like to participate more -now and in the future for such efforts.
I look forward to hearing from you and I also hope to have the pleasure of meeting you some time while fishing around OC. I'm usually fishing alone- mostly in a Maroon Astro conversion van or a silver Cherokee.
Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg, Thanks For The Kind Words......

Best Action At This Point is to Send A
FreeForm Letter with a perspective of both
of those choices you mentioned....
We really just need to get some suggestions
from the fishermen that fish the area giving
them their ideas of where you need access to
fish and how we can save some of the existing
structure that is there now....

Time is Getting Late on this , and anything
will help..

Hope To See You Out There Also, I Will Be
Doing The OC Things Next Month Hard...........

Thanks,,,,

Is there any way we can get the prints for the new bridge I fish that area and have my boat there. I would like to see what is going on for nest season. I wanted to start my own charter business there but would like to see if that area will be unfishable. Thanks guys for your help.
