Its 10 till 9:00pm Thanksgiving. I live right near the Great Egg Harbor Bay in OC and for the past half hour since I got home there has been coast gaurd choppers with search lights flying up and down the OC bayfront and out past the Longport Bridge. Has anybody heard anything? Hope everyone that fished today made it home safe.

That does not sound like anything good.
I hope it works out for all involved.

Yea, I don't think they would be out there for kicks on Thanksgiving night in this blow if it wasn't something serious. If someone is in that water I'm sure they are dead by now. They are still flying around up there.

I heard it was a 70+ year old man that wanted to go out in his kayak. They did find someone at 12th. str. and bay. The rescue squad and medic unit was working on him for awhile then they blocked 9th str and raced off to shore memorial. This info on age/kayak was second hand word so it isn't in stone. As for finding that person that is fact I saw it. I hope as is well.

I heard it too and put on my handheld and listened for awhile to the various channels. I heard nothing. My question is what the hell is someone doing out int the bay, by himself, at that age, in a kayak, float plan, tell someone, without any form of communication etc. I surfed yesterday and the water temp is around 54 F with the wind blowing hard offshore out of NW at about 30mph later in the day. Hope all is well but sometimes people do stupid things and stuff like this always happens. If he was around 12 st he would have been taking 2-3ft waves from that front moving in.

Got home around 9:20 pm and the police and rescue squad were down by the dock area of 12th street. I knew something was wrong. If it is true that someone was out on a yak I don't know why. I was freezing and really windy just walking into my house from my truck. Bassbarn never cieses to amaze me with the information on this forum.

Sometimes old guys like to do things...if you stop...what's the point of living????

Being cold doesn't stop even the old...now cold and breaking into the spray skirt (if he even had one) is a different story!!!!

You can sneak around and enjoy the water even when it seems brutal...I remember plenty of snowstorms I was out in my CC just to "enjoy" the solitude....

Yeah I'm not all there...maybe niether was this guy and I hope he's OK...if not...I hope he died doing what he loved most (besides the usual wife/family)...
