Anybody read an article in the Saturday Philly Inquirer about coldwater protection. Interesting. It was talking about reasons most people drown in cold water even though they are strong swimmers. What was surprising was the water was in many cases low 50's. Apparently when people hit the water for the 1st time the shock to the system creates a gasping reflex and with no PDF the initial gasp is water into the lungs and its over in seconds.

1. No PDF = not smart
2. wear a wetsuit or drysuit until water hits 60plus.

For more info go to www.enter.net/~skimmer/coldwater.html

Interesting stuff for those of us in the kayak or small boats.

On the yak I were neoprene waders with a neoprene wading jacket that has a belt which I pull tight. My PFD also has a belt. Double protection from water entering my waders.
