:huh:Has anyone ever used one of these reels for the surf and how do you like them? I have 2 that I bought new years ago and never used them on the beach, the few times I have used them they seem to cast very well. I bought them in the early 70's:huh:

Is that with the level wind feature? The 30 Saltist is a casting reel no levelwind, but I would think that the 30 Sealine and saltist both would be a bit heavy for plugging,...it would be great without the levelwind feature for bait fishing. I have 2 Okuma convectors that I removed the levelwind feature from so I could use on the beach. It was an easy conversion and I gained atleast 30% further casting distance.

Joe, I bought the reels new in the mid 70's, they are the sealine series, 30H, they are not level winds, they seem to cast pretty good but I have never used them on the surf, I probably have used both of them less than 10 times & always on the boat. They seem to be pretty well made. I guess what I am trying to find out is if anyone else has them and how they perform. thanks for the reply:wave:

If they don 't have the level wind and your comfortable with them ...by all means use them. I am a spinning reel fisherman , but I have a friend who is 64yrs Old who can throw a conventional Penn surfmaster and squidder atleast 20 yrds further with 20 lb mono than I can throw my Shimano baitrunners.with 30lb braid. My Okuma convectors are 20 series reels that are nice and light graphite reels with aluminum side rings and Power knob handles Great for large bunker chunks in the surf .
