Hi Guys:

I was looking for a floating minnow cage for bait but was worried about the drag it might create on the yak. I found this link.

Since I had most of these parts in PVC scrap, I made this for a few bucks and it is really sharp. FWIW, I thought the slip-on cap would be too tight to remove and replace quickly. I bought a male and female slip adapter and made a screw on cap where this author has a slip-on cap.

I'll report on the drag and overall convenience once this damned weather breaks and we can all get out.

I made a few last spring and they worked great. I used a clear plastic tube that I found at a flea market that already had a closed end attached and a flip-open lid on the other end. Lunchbox used it most of the summer so he may have a picture of it to post.

I made one of these bait tubes about 3 years ago. For the tube itself I used 3" ABS instead of PVC, it floats higher. I did use the PVC end caps which made made the tube float horizontal but submerged 75 percent. It works perfect. The ABS tubing only costs a few dollars more than PVC. I did not glue either cap to the tube, just put them on with a slight twist and they are not going anywhere.

I just happended to do a Google search on bait tubes and found this. I think I'm going to make a couple and give one to my brother. It would only cost about 25% more to make two.

Hey folks - I never reported back on this bait tube. It worked great, but I found the drag to be too much when in motion. No big deal - I just brought it on board when moving.

I ended up making one tonight. I had a small rod case that I never used. I cut it down to 2 1/2 ft and drilled out holes on both ends.
