Wondering what some good baits to use this time of year for the shallow lakes in South Jersey. I'm not that big into freshwater so I only have the basics. (senko, zoom fluke, paddle tails). Anything else I should be trying?

I guess it truly depends on how shallow you're talking. While the water is still not too cold, high 40's into the 50's I like cranks. Some water may be too shallow for a lipless crank but I like those. Try a shallow diving square bill crank. I also like a Wakebait. They are subsurface cranks that stay within a few inches of the surface. Jerkbaits are also good this time of the year.

I like the Wakebait for that. You can fish it right beneath the surface. If you can find some submerged vegetation and run the Wakebait over it you'll get action.

Topwater for any shallow lakes usually works almost all times of year. Im also a big fan of jerk baits in the fall and winter. Plastics usually work well also.
