Were on our way from the UK to Martha?s Vineyard at the end of this month to try our hand at salt water fly-fishing for stripped bass. This will be a completely new way of fishing to us and at present trying to decide what tackle to take with us. We have booked a guide for our first day so any setup queries will be answered then.
Most important I think is the rod weight and line types to use. I have read up on the subject a little and everything from #8 to #12 is recommended.
Any advice will be appreciated.

Welcome from the other bank of the pond! In the Vineyard an 8 to 10wt will be plenty for stripers. Striper fly fishing is pretty simple. Cast out and retrieve in likely looking spots. Or, fish like you would for trout/salmon and dead-drift streamers in the current. Use intermediate and sinking lines mostly depending on water depth, and floating lines for shallow water.
