I'm a Penn guy primarily, deep water fluke Penn Mag 525 with braid, back water Diawa coastal also with braid (10lb ), fluking with a bobber Penn Prion, Stripers in the bay Mag with 25lb mono, Squidder with mono, also sometime use a Penn Liveliner.
If you want just one for both-I would suggest a Penn Int 965 or 975. Cost is a couple hundred but your good.
Shimano Stradic, 4000 for a spinner.

Avet sx for the boat!
I mostly use Daiwa gear. For boat baitcasters I use Lunas and Plutons. I also have 2 Avets. For spinning reels I use Coastals, Saltiga Zs and Saltiga Games. I also have some other crazy spinners for surf fishing, Basia, Basiair, Shimano Aero Technium 10000, Van Staal and Saltiga Z6000 GT.
Shimano Spheros 3000 haven't caught (or hooked) anything in the back bays that couldn't handle. This little reel has 22 lbs. of drag, look it up on the Shimano site. If you get in the the 4000 or 5000 series I would think it would be perfect for back bay/delaware bay. Never hurts to have a bigger conventional on board at all times though.
Striper Penn 320 GT and Avet SX, Flounder in bay diawa Luna and penn 525 for deepwater.

In the bay and back water the luna is a light weight reel that is fun to use
penn 4500 with 15lb fireline for flounder.shimano 4500 baitrunner with 50lb power pro for stripers.
I use a calcutta 250 in the back, and and calcutta 400 for deeper water fluke and striped bass. I don't think they make the 250 anymore, but you can take a look at the sizes they make. I also use an avet SX and a penn 965 for the deep fluke and striped bass. IMO, for the back, you do not need anything too expensive. Especially if you are just targeting fluke for the most part. From what I hear, the Abu Garcia baitcasters are a great bang for the buck although I have never owned one...

These are my go to reels, the nice thing about these reels is that they are excellent boat reels and even better surf reels so you only need to buy 1 reel for both situations.

Fluke: Spinning - van staal 150 or quantum cabo 40

Conventional-abu garcia 6000 series or quantum cb30pt

Striper: Spinning - zeebaas zx25 or quantum cabo 50/60
(new penn torque spinning looks hot)

Conventional - abu garcia 7000 and big game series

Shimano calcutta 400 in the bay, shimano charter special around the hook and beach fronts, penn jig masters when heavier weight is needed or jigging larger jigs,Penn 4/0 wire line rigs for bunker spoons
I have many Brands and types of Reels and some are Hi Dollar Reels, Spinners, Conventional, Bait casters reels,if I was to Pick 1 Reel out of them all,it would be the Shimano Charter Special 2000 Lever Drag with 50lb Power Pro,I have 4 of them and after 6years of being used not one Problem,Bluefin to 45lb,F,Albes, Drum 75lb,Stripper 40lb,Flounder,and on,I think there the best all round Boat Reel, and only cost about $120.00,a Real work Horse,,,and No these are not my Normal Tuna Reels, but I do use them out to 20nm OUT
i have a calcutta 400Te i have been using for a while.

last year added a saltiga30

I'll second this choice.......
my reels/rods: inshore flounder/bottom fishing, Shimano Calcutta 400 on a St. Croix 6 1/2ft M rod. pretty much everything else, Penn Liveliner 4600 on a Shimano Saragosa 7ft MH rod. for what its worth, i like the Liveliner combo better as an overall unit, but the rod is a bit too heavy for flounder inside. fishes deep like a champ though, and bulletproof to boot.
Shimano Stradic, 4000 for a spinner.

Avet sx for the boat!

I fish the same reels on my boat as well as Shimano 3500 Baitrunners .
Do Everything

I paired an Avet sx with a Shimano trevala jigging rod. It has become my do everything rod. Flounder, Striper, and even Mahi. This combo rules. Cost about $300 well worth it.
penn 975....
I have so many, But I like my Tekota 300, 500 for Flounder, SeaBass & stripers outside fishing chunks or strips. My Corsairs for flounder both winter and summer inside. My stradics 4000, 5000, 6000, for plugging I like my baitrunners 3500b, 4500b for the beach for bait & 8 and livelining both off the beach and boat. My Penn 650 ssm for wiggling eels & whole live bunker off jetties My penn conventionals for trolling . All my other reels wind up as loaners . or hardly get used.
