-------------------------------------------------

Wow, March is here already... I hope everyone had a great winter and I am looking forward to reading some fishing reports again...
Well after a record warm January with water temps holding in the 40's you just knew Old Man Winter was going to show up,and show up he did..
It seems that the coldest nights of the year have just been felt leading up to the opening of the BackBay & Inlet Striper Season tonight at Midnight and water temperatures took a hit because of it.. I could not find any water temps up and down the coast both out front and the backbays that were any higher then the mid-30's. But that being said I am sure a few fish will be active especially as we head into the weekend..
Marine forcast along the shore calls for NW Winds 10-15kts with sea's 2-3ft. Overnight lows will dip just below freezing along the coast. Sunset is at 5:50PM and High Tide at CISP is 8:21PM..Percentage of Moon Visible 0%

So Good Luck To The Bridge Runners Tonight Along Ocean Drive and to the Bait SurfCasters on the Sods of Gr.Pt. Tomorrow...

Can't wait to hear about the first backwater Bass of the season being caught by boat or off land...

*Also I Forgot - NEW SB Regulations -
allows anglers to take two striped bass each day, each equal to or greater than 28 inches.
No More Small Slot or Tweeners.......

Met up with Eelball tonight and gave it a shot for an hour or so south of OC. No bites on clam. Something was chewing on the bloodworms. Probably just perch. Started to get real cold and windy all of sudden around 2 AM so we called it a night just before it started snowing.

Went out last night just before 12. H2o behind oc was 37-38. way to cold for any good action. I wont venture out till it hits 43-44deg. Last year I got my first on march 15th. Eelball at least we ventured out. I'll buzz later today.

Was out in south Jersey lastnight looking around for some signs of life but there was nothing anywhere, took water temps in 5 different spots and the highest i came up with was 37 degrees, ran into a couple of barners Far26 was out and about with a couple of his buddies, when i saw them around 12:30am they hadn't had any fish as of yet, then i ran into Longcast talked to him for about a 1/2 hour until the winds turned West and started howling the air temp felt like it dropped 20 degrees in 5 minutes, it was nice meeting Frank and his 2 buddies and Jeff, by the way Strikes Jeff says Hi, he was going to one of his skunk breaking spots when we left him, hope you found some fish Jeff, it may be March first but it felt like the dead of winter lastnight when that wind picked up, hopefully the water temp will improve by next week and get into the 40's i will be back out next tuesdaynight.

Thanks Guys,,

Believe it or not this is actually the 7th Season now that I have been running a fishing report thread here in NJ..Started way back in 2000 with the Weekly Cape/Atlantic Reports with Jeff/Longcast by the way... Hi Jeff...

Jim, I figured the usual cast of characters would be out and about last night and if all those guys hadn't found anything up until that point then they were just not biting.Alot of Good Fishermen There Including Yourself...

And Yes, I Can't Wait To Hit The Jetty...

Ran out behind OC, just to check out the motor(s)
38.7 degrees everywhere I went, with the exception of the warmwater discharge plume, that didn't have much in the way of life.

Boat ran great- good to be out there, although fishing was futile- no hits, no misses, no one left on.

Had it all to myself, me and the conch guys.

I want to FISH! Does anyone here fish the Susky Flats in the Spring? I tried it last year off the VA Hospital in My Kayak but no luck. Was out about a mile or so and it looks great if the fish were there. The water goes from 25ft to 3ft. I usually fish the flats once a year with a fishing guide (Pete Dahlberg) but unlike the 1st few years on the flats the past 3 seasons has been a big disappointment. On a good day it was 100 fish between 22 and 45inches but with the cold winters and heavy spring rains the h20 gets dirty fast. May give it a shot again in the kayak this year.

If your gonna go yak that area again and want some company, let me know. I did it before and got some nice bass. same area you were. We had a camp site nerby(5 min away) and made a long weekend of it. When herring are running they are the ticket, alive or dead. Although we didn't do bad plugging.
jc,
Was looking at your profile. My wife was from Harleysville and her Maiden name is cattie. Her first name is Carolyn. Ring any bells?

...MINOR TIDAL FLOODING EXPECTED AT HIGH TIDE THIS EVENING...

LOW PRESSURE WILL MOVE OFF THE COAST THIS EVENING FOLLOWED BY AN EAST TO NORTHEAST WIND ALONG THE OCEAN FRONT. THIS WIND WILL RAISE THE TIDE LEVELS TO AROUND ONE AND HALF FOOT ABOVE NORMAL OR AROUND SIX AND A HALF FEET ABOVE MEAN LOWER LOW WATER. AS A RESULT, MINOR TIDAL FLOODING IS EXPECTED AT THE TIMES OF HIGH TIDE THIS EVENING.

ALONG THE OCEAN FRONT, THE TIMES OF HIGH TIDE WILL BE 930 TO 1030 PM, AND AN HOUR AND A HALF LATER IN THE BACK BAYS.

ALTHOUGH WE ONLY EXPECT MINOR FLOODING, THE MORE VULNERABLE AREAS SUCH AS WEST ATLANTIC CITY, AND PARTS OF NORTH WILDWOOD MAY EXPERIENCE FLOODING AT A LOWER TIDE LEVEL, OR AROUND FIVE AND A HALF FEET ABOVE MEAN LOWER LOW WATER.

PERSONS ARE REMINDED TO MOVE THEIR CAR TO HIGHER GROUND PRIOR TO THE OCCURRENCE
