Bunch of short stripers last night. Really good action, really good conditions. Go figure with the full moon myth legend. Get this, all on plastics and artificials. That's with a live-lined PB in the water.

Guys--what's going on with this storm, is it here or not here? I looked at weather.com and saw a big green formation off the coast...

But people seem to still be going out... are the backbays rough for the shorebound fisherman? I actually have a day off tonight...

Wanted to get out last night, but spent it helping with the seating arrangements... T-20 days! ARGH!

Dr. B when are you leaving for FLA...

What you saw on the radar were just some random
thunderstorms. The main system is still making
its way up the coast. We will see some heavier
surf the next few days, but that's probably it.
The storm is supposed to head offshore once it
reaches the Carolinas...
Doctor

The most useful tool is the radar, they are USUALLY correct about the type of weather, they are almost always wrong on the time of arrival.

The back bays were PERFECT last night, they should be about the same tonight IMHO. I always check the radar during times, like these to see if I can find a window for fishing if storms are in the area.

I leave for Florida in 1 WEEK
Saturday night behing Avalon. Threw a popper off the sod banks just before dark and missed a hit. Hit some spots after dark and loads of peanuts around with fish busting on them but could not get a nibble on live nuts, plastics or plugs. Any chance the bait was just too thick?

RyanF
No and yes, Ryan

They will bite, sometimes more on plastics. Cherish each hit like it's your last, you will get good at it. The problem with the PB's is putting them right where they need to be. Depending on where, sometimes a boat is better , sometimes land is better

Ron
Fished OC area tonight.... plugs & plastics... current was brisk and high, murky water.... 1 small hit on the plug...

I'm thinking I'll do what Nightstrikes is doing and wait 'till the Fall... too much to do now anyways!
2 shorts tonight, no trout. Have I mentioned how thick the PB's are yet??? How the heck does a blood worm and a snapper go untouched for about 2 hours right in the strike zone?? I guess they were all stripers. Really good action with good conditions. And guess what, MULLET in the cast net. So far I have had great luck with a plastic that looks just like a spearing, real slow. i have been adding a touch of shedder oil as well. It has been good for at least 2 stripers every night. Artificial guys chalk one up for you

Dr. Bass, the only lure that I could get strikes on over the past several trips was a little 3"
Sterling Minnow from Matzuo. It's a small shad-style soft plastic and resembles a finger mullet pretty well. The fish are very difficult to catch right now. Mullet everywhere. Too much competition, I think.

Bill, good to hear from you. Thanks for that tip, gonna try it tonight actually. I agree, they are just way too picky right now.
I have been right on top of a lot of bass lately that will not hit a thing, and pretty sure they are all bass b/c no weaks with a bloodworm or snapper out on a live-line. First couple of mullet showed up in my cast net last night as I posted above. Most of my luck has come from plastics.

Take Care

Ron
Ron go get 'em and let us know how you do.

And thank-you Bill!!!

Man o man , what a night I had. The bass turned on something fierce tonight. I ended up with 6 , all within 22-26 and at least 3 lost. And they must have been on speed, jumping and tearing off of the bank like a rocket once hooked. Gotta love the 20 pound braid, had the reel screaming tonight.
Yeah, it was a night for the soul, I jumped at least twice as they exploded off of the bank.

Awesome, Ron!
Bill,

I used a Bass Assassin, about 3 inches long black and silver with good tail action. Put it on a 3/8 jig head casted right up stream of a feeder creek. Like a charm!!

Thanks Again
