I have a Black Max 7000 running generator that is about 5 yrs old. Has done great in these power outages until the tail end of the last one a couple days ago. Fans on high setting running about low speed instead, and lights were dim. I did not do any meter testing yet. Switched to another circuit - same thing. One circuit left seemed to do OK. Refrigerator and water pump on that no issues seemed to be happening. Refridge light was normal brightness. I do need to check the extension cords but they are heavy duty and doubt that is the issue.

Any ideas or just get it to the repair shop? I really do not want to have to buy another one right now.

First i would see if it's running the correct RPM then i would bring out the Meter check without a load then with a load ( Digital Preferred IMO ) before i went to a shop.

Check the capacitor, is the top swelled out then it is bad. When they go bad you get these kind of problems

Thanks. I looked at parts list it does not show a capacitor. Maybe it's the voltage regulator? Has electric start. But I'll look around to see. https://www.partswarehouse.com/BlackMax-BM907000A-7000-Watt-Generator-s/12380.htm?gclid=CjwKCAjwps75BRAcEiwAEiACMZdI6MDaZ7yvNSC3Cn4GlMVTqjZmqWu5v1qXtEDsofKUr4zxfUP4zRoCGQoQAvD_BwE

Thanks! I earlier looked up support and found a nearby authorized repair shop (small engine repair) but they are off vacation until next week. And of course the guy on the phone did not offer a simple fix. But I'll see if I can call someone central to ask the question on the regulator and see what it will take to swap it out. Looks easy from the diagram. If it's just a few bolts and rewiring that part might just go ahead with a swap and see what happens. As long as I what I order is the correct part should be no issue.
