I have a garmin e-trex handheld. It comes ready to go. Theonly option which I have never used is, i think you can download more detailed maps. If you go on garmin's website, I'm sure they can explain it better that i can. BTW I am selling mine. I don't have the original box but it works fine and doesn't have a scratch on it. Looking to get $100.

You do have to tell it where it is to start.
It should come with a book with a 4 digit number.
I think the number for the Northeast coast is something
like 9496.

Also you probaly have a mounting bracket for it to go on
your boat. Make sure its not to close to the compass.
You geta false reading on the compass if the GPS is to close.

Fishead...You need to have a good mounting bracket and good connection to the adapter or if your using batteries make sure it doesnt get bounced around too much or it will cut off when you take a big wave....its hard for someone to hold it if your on a smaller boat..

whichever unit you can get, the mounting bracket and external power cord can be purchased on the net

Tom,

I never got your e-mail. Ram-mount makes a brcket for the unit. I had one, but don't know if i still do. If I can find it, I'll throw it in.
