I'm going there myself in June after a cruise. I booked ocean hunter since he advertises on his website "for serious fishermen only...not a pleasure cruise." www.oceanhuntercharters.com

I have never been there before, but I heard they are mostly tourist boats that are perfectly happy catching 20lb halibut all day. These guys won the derby in 2008.

The others I was considering was In-2-fishing charters or the huntress. Go to www.homerhalibutderby.com and just look how many times each of these are listed. I would not want to get there and realize I booked with a tourist boat ride operation.

P.s. Don't know if you care, but Lingcod does not open until July 1

Captain B's Alaskan C's is an awesome charter boat. You will get limits of whatever you fish for on most boats, and whenever I go up there I've gotten Halibut limits. What the do differently is allow you to limit out on Halibut, Lingcod, and rockfish all on one trip. On the combo trip the halibut all average 30Lbs, but there are a few larger one's mixed in. They also do long-range halibut only trips where you have a much better chance at a barn-door halibut. If you time it right you can get a limit of halibut, rockfish, and lingcod on the boat, and head to the homer fishing hole and catch some salmon all in one day. Very cool fishing.
