My lower unit went on my motor so I removed it, and am trying to install a new (used) one.

I set it up in neutral on both the engine and LU per the Mercury manual. I am able to slip it up, turn the motor and get the driveshaft in.

I am having trouble getting the shift shafts lined up. It keeps pushing the shaft up and pinning it on the engine block, even with fiddling to find the spline.
th installing it in reverse and foward with no luck.
I have also played wi

Any ideas? I really cant afford to bring it to a shop. (I am a college student)

Thanks!

You just gotta keep playing with it, as you bring the lower unit up have someone work the shift shaft until it go in, make sure you have the shaft disconnected from the linkage on the power head too.
