I just have to say this. The boys and I were doing a tour this past weekend. Just hanging out, driving around looking at boats. GS has a 42 Yellowfin W/ trip 350's. I was star struck, with exception to the forward seating it looks like the perfect boat. To top it off, a 26 Reg was parked next to it. All I will say is ouch!

Nice rig!

It is right at the front of the boat show. I saw it there sunday when we moved boats in. It was nice looking except I din't get the point of all the stainless tiebar mounts that wrapped around the back of the motors. It looked kind of ugly where they cut out the motor skirts.

"If they made this boat with a pilot house it would be the ultimate fishing machine."

Interesting comment...I wonder i there is a point at which a CC's length reaches a max and becomes a sportfish? Sounds like a dumb question...but just curious..Sounds like an awesome boat (can't get to the show to see it!) Bear is one hell of a nice guy to make the offer to give up his boat if he gets it, though!

Jack, I don't know about nice guy. Anyone would share their wealth with family. Ack is just my brother from another mother...:)

Yeah dave I inquired about the Seavee earlier this year, a buck 25. I just can't swing that in todays economy. I have no idea of future employment and my day job may be winding down. I wouldn't open a note in todays world on a bet.

However, I do think it would prolly be better for charters.

Bear...you on the "cutting blocks" at your company? Maybe we have more than an addiction to fishing/boating in common. This is my first day outa work since 11yrs old as a paperboy...40 this year...I am a victum of the bloodbath in Collegeville, PA. This is the reason I am not going to the boat show...I'm scared I'd blow my entire severance on something that may not pay the bills...luckily I am 2000% satisfied with my ride before the job loss...now I will truly have to fish for food!

Bear,

I applaude your sense of financial responsibility and agree with you fully regarding the job climate. I'm in the same boat so to speak.

Unfortunately, the prices of all big ticket items are still driven by a credit-laden economy and have not corrected sufficiently to justify cash purchase. Pay cash and you bear (no pun intended) all the risk of the products future value and the dollar's devaluation if that continues. At least by borrowing the funds, you'll have some options, and if you can get a really low rate it becomes a no brainer. You'll also be paying back at a fixed amount, but likely with devalued future dollars so in effect you might get a discount over the long term.

Now that doesn't suggest that we should jump in beyond our means, but even if cash purchase was an option, I could never commit that amount of cash to something as risky as a boat.

Personally, I think a CC that big is a waste up here, especially up north by me. The canyon run here is so far that you really have to leave in the dark. Which means you cannot run fast, even if weather permits.

That is unless you overnight and leave during the day, in which case you are not in such a hurry. I'd take Harry's 42 Henriques Maine Coaster over the YF any day. It's just so damn functional.

That being said, i'd give my left one to open the throttles on that beast and tell my 6 closest friends that we'll be at the Atlantic Princess in a little over an hour.

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: I need to be comfortable for the long trips we make! I make mostly 36+ hour overnighters! How many days can you use the speed up here? I bet it burns 100gph + at 50-55mph! That a lot of fuel!

I like life in the slow lane :D

You got it Brian! Although if I were fishing for clams of the bearded variety I would certainly pick the YF. :D

I tend to agree, having fished on small center consoles offshore, large dominator center consoles , and large sportfishers i can definately say i prefer the comfort over speed.

You can only utilize that speed only so often in the waters we fish, but you can ALWAYS use a bunk to lay down in, a full head, and a warm meal!
both have there pro's and con's but i will take the comfort of a big heavy sporty offshore anyday of the week!!! if I where in florida or the gulf i would say differently.

if you don't get a twang in the loins from the roar of twin diesels you need to see a doctor...
