I just figured out my expenses for the year and came up with $38-$40,000 and I havent in my opinion done much fishing this year being that busy at work amongst other things. Factoring in Boat payments/boat insurance/maintenance/fuel/bait/Ice/tackle/Trailer needs/what little tournament fishing we do/hotel rooms.I would venture to say that when fuel costs where high and I was fishing more I spent approx $50-60g A year. And I am just one man with A few guys fishing on my boat.I cant help but wonder what the true $### are that the fishing industry provides for our economy!

I truly feel sorry for all the party and charters boats out there and around the US as A whole. You must really love what you do!:)

Depending on how you want to calculate the value of cash ( my partner and I bought our boat outright ie. no financing) but assuming 5% / yr we are at $40k + . Scary considering we only did 5 canyon trips and limited inshore due to work , weather ect ...

I think it is quite sickening myself!

That we in the economic shape that we are in are basically supporting our economy as we dont stop fishing!;) We the fisherman/boat owners have proved time and time again that we will never STOP fishing and will indeed STIMULATE our own economy! If the state and fed govt lost us they would be nothing!!!!!:fighting::thumbsup: Do you know what I paid when I got back from FL to NJ with my boat in NJ sales tax CASH MONEY? And I was thinking of buying my new boat this year? nah,I'll wait and see what happens with all this! HIT THEM IN THE POCKET WHERE IT COUNT'S they'll fold eventually. Just dont do it to the bait shops and fuel docks! Maybe if we paid the bait shops and fuel docks cash it would put A damper on all this if they werent claiming it?:)

Looked at my journals. In last 4 years averaged 25 trips a year. Five on private boats, the rest on party and charter. I averaged 5 offshore trips a year on the larger NJ party boats. New England trips for cod - 4 (one a year.) NC offshore pb 1 trip, inshore 1 trip. The NJ pb trips were for offshore SB. My one scheduled offshore SB trip on the AS in 2009 was cancelled due to government interference. My fare is on the AS books, waiting for a trip. Normally I have been out at least twice bottom fishing offshore by this date.
Oh well, maybe will get out for a bucket of macs.
I cannot post any dollar amount. My sweetie hacked into bb.

I love to fish and the costs of fishing are probably above my budget. I spend what i can afford and dont keep track of it. I sometimes do a round about cost figure in my head and it takes the fun out of it. The wife doesn't bother me much about costs of fishing. Its the girlfriend that thinks the money should be spent on her!!! hehehe!!!
In reality if we were not spending money on fishing it would be some other hobby our wives wish we didnt do.

I don't even want to think about it...between boat payments, a slip, fuel, bait, tackle, maintenance......travel, hotel rooms, meals. It has to top $25-30K on the low side. I am afraid if I actually figured it out I might decide to cut back.

Every year varies with boat purchases, etc. In 08 I sold my 26 Shamrock for 20K and bought a 21 Mako for 10K. By the time I rigged it with a nice T-top and fixed what needed fixing, I was probably out around 22-23K. I sold the Merc that was on it and bought a new Yammie this spring and had to replace the tank and hoses. There was another 14K-15K. Between my 17 and the 21, I burned 300 gallons of gas and oil for about $750. I had some repairs on the 17's engine for about $900. I only bought 5 new fishing rods this year and maybe $200 worth of tackle, but it was a slow year and I only logged 108 hours between the 2...taking out the cost of the new engine (12.5K), I spent between 5 and 6 grand on "normal" expenditures. I live on the water, so I did not have any slip fees. Insurance was about $500-$600 and I have trailers so no winter storage or hauling fees either.

Priceless

Like they say you can't take it with you, so you mine as well have fun while your here:thumbsup: I bought a new 29 CC Everglades w/ twin Yahama 250 4 strokes. Then I had it completely rigged with twin Raymarine E-120's, 4 Kw Radar, auto pilot, & sirius satellite radio....It was a BOAT load of Money, but getting away from work and spending time on the water with good friens & my 2 boys is PRICELESS:D Every "tug" they feel and every fish they catch makes it all worth while. I just hope fishing is still around for them to keep passing on the tradition:confused:

I added up dock rent, insurance, sea tow, bottom paint, sirius radio fees, sea surface temp subscription, rods, reels, tackle, bait, FUEL and service to the engines, samall tournaments, tec... was about $20,000 this year.
Someone earlier said it best "Thank GOD my Wife is not a Barner".....LMAO:razz:

Not Interested

Not interested in calculating it... Certainly more than I would deem sane...

Besides if my other half really finds out, I'm in for a long hard conversation...
