I usually vary the number of turns I do depending on the diameter of the line but have problems with stiff leader material. Anymore than 2 turns and I cannot get the knot to cinch down. Should I use a different knot?

I use 5-7 twists depending on diam of the line. I usually do the regular clinch instead of the improved, seams to hold better for me esp with big line.

Hold tension on the tag end with your teeth. This will allow you to cinch down and prevent line from damage as you cinch it.(Don't pull too hard on the tag just don't let it slip.)

Bay Rat, a regular clinch knot would be easier to get to tighten up and sit right with larger diameter line. Do you have any problems using the regular over the improved?

I use penn leader material in 50 and 80, it is the best leader material i have ever used. its really supple and soft to work with and i can tie 4 twist improved and cinch them down perfectly, i would try it the stuff is awesome!

With ShoeB on that.
Definitely wet the line. It cinches easier, tighter and cleaner.
