The long held superstition concerning the changing of a vessel's name has been dis proven, however the other long held superstition concerning having a woman on board still holds true. I know whenever my wife or daughter is on board with me, they catch all the fish, and I get skunked......

It's your boat now.....name it what you want.....;)

Bad luck. Don't do it.
Just as bad as eating bananas on a boat.

I’ve been kicking around the same thing, Changing the Name,Just dont need any, Murphy law,
Murph, I agree... Boats under 25ft don't need names... Then there's the crowd that wants the guys on the internet pages to help them name their boat???

Name it or don't, but if you can't think up your own name why would you want something that someone else thought up over the internet..??

My old mans 1952 25ft Chris Craft cabin cruiser was named "Dunk"...

Then again I've run accross some really stupid names on boats.... like "Here fishy fishy" Can you imagine calling the USCG for help and having to use that name?? Jersey Girl is another. I'll bet there are over a 1500 boats in NJ with that name..

If you are going to name a boat at least get original... And no, again no....your boat won't sink, burn or blow up if you change the name..

Google changing the name...a ceremony of sorts is involved...I would say do it just to have fun, an excuse to have a party with a bunch of your friends...sounds like a good idea to me.

I have had the same name since 1984. Would like to change it to Big Dick. Can you imagine all the respect you will get when someone on Ch 68 or 78 pushes the mike on their VHF and calls,'' "Big Dick,Big Dick. You out there Big Dick?" Everytime you answer you swell with pride!!!:p:p:p

your not supposed to give your boat its name. someone else is supposed to do that for you, and you should put the original name of the boat on it somewhere, indiscreet, plus after you rename it you need to recommission it, It has to be done before it ever goes into the water with the new name. There is a such thing as luck. nobody should ever bet on luck , but sometimes it better to be lucky than good, and even the best fisherman have to relie on a little luck once in a while. besides it won't hurt.
