Last year jigging blues and bass, my Avet SX seemed a bit under matched, especially using 5 and 6 oz jigs. The SX is on a St Croix Tidemaster MH rod, which is great for bait fishing for stripers and fluke fishing. Was looking for something a bit heavier and saw this on TackleDirect.

I only get out for tuna 1 or 2 times a year and it's usually on a PB for Yellowfin and Longfin. So I was thinking this may work for jigging too. Landed a 55lb Longfin last year jigging, I used a Penn Senator 4/0 with 40lb test.

Open to other ideas. Trying to keep the price under $400.

Go to Tackledirect and check out the Shimano Trevala jigging rods. Great lightweight rods but they are powerful - you can put a lot of pressure on the fish and still enjoy the fight. Rods under 150 - and you can matc it with a Torium reel and be right about 400 bucks

I like the idea of the torium, looks like a nice reel. I checked out your budget jigger too, like it. Does it only come acid wrapped? Also will you be going to the Somerset show, I might go to this show to help narrow down my decision.
