Around these parts the spring run action has always been better....(at least for me).....in the back bay / river area. Plugging around bridges at sunset when the lights first come on has produced more bass for me then any jetty I've cast a lure from.....besides, with the on going sand pumping here, I doubt any of the jetties I frequent will be worth a damn until fall anyway......
I was just in Tackle Direct this afternoon, and was checking out some wading boots with spikes. They're not the same type of spikes the Korkers have, but they're spikes.....I was wondering how they would hold on the rocks.....?

I have the wetlands. The problem I have is when I'm walking on slopping rocks - the edge of the rubber sole sticks much farther out than the spikes, which requires being very careful to step at the appropriate angle to the rock so as not to have the outer edge land and slid on the slippery rock. I actually use the same wader boots with the lug soles when using the k1100 sandles. I fish a jetty that actually requires climbing down and up rocks, the placement of the spikes on the Jetty Plus model, in my opinion, make this a more secure practise.

I use waxed hockey laces...They tie a tighter knot and have very little stretch. They also make a bright yellow color which makes tieing at night a little easier.
There are a lot of good suggestions here and this is one thing that has worked well for me over the years.
I have also seen guys put a SS screw through the heel of the korker into the heel of the boot. Home Depot has black knee boots in the concrete section that are only 12 bucks and they are a cheap way to make a dedicated korker boots.

I don't see the need to replace the laces myself. Been using the laceups for years and never had a problem. I pull em up tight, cross them over once as if you were tying your shoes, then around my ankles once, cross over again and a double knot. TIGHT. When finished there is nothing hanging loose and they have never come loose on me wet or dry. The more spikes the better.

I had laceups for years and they were fine for around here.... then one fine day I was wading out to climb up on a rock at Point Judith in RI. I lost a korker when the lace got cut on a rock and had to basically crawl back through the surf in the worst walking conditions there there possibly can be. Any step could have broken an ankle.
Grabbed the loose korker and had to use it on my hand to get a grip on the weed covered rocks to avoid being knocked over by the waves... there was no way to get it back on my boot.
I now use the K-5000's.. I snug them down when new and then cut the excess strap off, then secure the tag end around its partner strap with heavy tape so it is impossible to slip. Have never had a problem since and I have jumped everything from NJ jetties to slick granite boulders to shale cliffs. The buckles have never come open on me.
And Lock-tite blue on the screw ins make all the difference in the world...

I just looked at the Korker's website and I kinda like this Streamborn wading boot they got with the changeable soles. Tackle Direct has them listed for $139.95, but they come with the trail sole, and felt sole, the jetty spike sole is another $35.00 so it would be $175.00 in the end.....
I still like the idea of a good supportive boot with spikes. years ago when the Walt's Walkers were available, I got a pair that fit tight over a pair of hiking boots, and as long as the temps weren't too extreme, they allowed me the best and safest mobility on the rocks, and the nice thing about the Walt's Walkers was, the spikes were standard golf shoe spikes, and you could find replacements at any sporting goods store....(of course now days spiked golfing shoes are pretty much a thing of the past)....which brings me to the other foot wear I used on jetties in the summer, a pair of white golf shoes....
But getting back to the boots.....I like the looks of the Korker's boot with the interchangeable soles, has anyone used any of the Korker's footwear instead of the strap or lace on sandals........???

I've got the streamborn wader boots and I really like em.The problem I'm having is corrosion on the metal.All the metal on the boots has corroded in 1 season.Right now I'm planning on retro fitting them with nylon lace up's.This is the only problem,it's a big problem but the boots work great.

Corrosion after just one year? Did you wash them off after each use? My wetlands have last about 7-8 years. The metal bracket that holds the sole strap rusted out after about 5 years, but that was easily replaced. You'd think korkers would build a boot that has not metal in it. :nuts:

Yep washed when I got home every time but I guess the hour it takes me to get home was enough to ruin em.I said the same thing to the Korkers guy I guess their focus is on the sweet water guy's.:thumbsdown:

Last year I discovered the benefits of carrying a spray bottle of "Saltaway" with me. When I get back to the Jeep I give my reels, pliers, terminal tackle, and surf bag a quick spray then flush everything as soon as I get home.
I would assume it would extend the life of those metal components on the Korker boots as well.

From what I understand, there's a couple different brand name products like this on the market. I found this particular brand at Brennan Marine in Somers Point, NJ.
It's a 12 fluid Oz. spray bottle of concentrate made by Kwik-Tek in Denver, CO
It also claims to be biodegradable, non-toxic & environment friendly.
The instruction say to mix with water, but I just lightly spray everything, then flush with water when I get home. Since I started using this stuff last year, the hooks on all my artificials have lasted much longer, as a matter of fact, I don't have to replace too many this year as compared to previous years when I'd have to replace the hooks on every thing I used...
It's proven to be some pretty good stuff, and if I get the opportunity to purchase those Korker wading boots, I'll be using this stuff on them as well.....:thumbsup:
