Visiting Black Hole company in Korea
I am in Korea. I arrived at Seoul at 5:00 am yesterday(01-22) and I spent time for getting some documents from local governments in the moring and visted N.S. company which makes Black Hole rods.
I have been helping them to develop jigging and popping rods called Cape Cod Special and I am glad I visited the company as there were some miscommuncations by exchanging ideas and information by e-mails and telephone. It took only two hours to understand each other.
The chief rod designer understand exactly what I want and explain me cleary and precisely what they can do and whty they can not do.
When I tested their prototype rods in Panama, I was pretty satisfied with the performance and action of their jigging rods, but I was wondering whether they can reinforce the backbone of popping rods while reducing the weight a little bit.
When I checked the products there, I found they have been making lighter popping rods already, they just misunderstand my intention and sent me different prototype popping rods. Their 8'6"/8'3" popping rods in production weighs about 14 oz with proper bend which I wanted.
When I asked to make them a little stiffer for big tuna in 150 - 200 lbs range with similar light weight, the chief designer said he would. Finally my missing puzzle is solved.

After completing discussion of jigging and popping rods, I showed the chief rod designer a Superseeker 2X4 blank explainging this blank is one of the most popular cow bait rods on the long range boats out of San Diego and they use it for the railing.
He just shake his head with a smile. When I asked him whether it is possible to make blanks with similar action, half weight and more strength, he said he didn't see any problem. If they can introduce those blanks, it will be great as the Superseeker 2X4 weighs as heavy as 18 oz. [email protected]

When they showed me their sample room, I was in awe. It must be hundreds smaples of rods there !!!
I learned many things while touring the company. I saw at least 30 differnt materials they use for making rods. Who said rod/blank making is easy and any rod company make any action of rods you want.
They have to know exactly the strength and weakness of each material and their results of combination of those material.

I heard no other rod making companies in the world use more Fuji guides than the company use. they said they are going to use newly introduced Fuji SIC guides for Black Hole Cape Cod Special popping rods which will be introduced in March to the US.

I expected it takes at least 2 - 3 days to discuss with them, but our discusssion was needed only two hours. So I asked whether I could go codfishing on Sunday, but unfortunately all cod boats were booked completely. :x

I plan to introduce Black Hole jigging and popping rods/blanks at Sommerset Saltwater Fishing Show, NJ in March.

I got this from the other site he frequents and it is looking good for the jiggers and popping guys!!!:D

Thanks. But i like my stuff thats made in U.S.A.:fighting:
Thanks for passing the info on Mike, very interesting.
No offense but I'm buying the better quality product. USA or not. KSONG knows his stuff.
paz.

Thanks. But i like my stuff thats made in U.S.A.:fighting:

Are you telling me you don't own anything from another country?I call B/S;) while I agree with you on some things,I won't on jigging/popping rods at least not for now.Until the manuf of rods in the US get into the ballgame on jigging and popping rods the rest of the world will show us the US how it's done.Seeker has got into the ballgame with the Herc series of rods but that is about it,and it is a great rod and by far up to par with some of the best from overseas, but there aren't many choices for people into jigging/popping made in the US.It is sad but the truth.:)
well you better start investing in china cause this clown obama is screwing this place.
Thanks. But i like my stuff thats made in U.S.A.:fighting:
Have you ever been fishing with this man? He is a #1 human being. In case you haven't noticed, barners have a crush on KSONG for a reason.:D
Bashing the man here is a losing cause, JMHO ;)
Wasnt bashing anybody, In so many words I just simply said I wouldnt buy anything made in Korea. (No offense to anybody):naughty::thumbsup:

Right on!! F-em if they wanna waste there money on over priced korean crap that needlessly bends in half. My rod looks like a broom stick and will be around longer than me. Lets see how long a rod the size of a pencil lasts in big game fishing. Im very impressed with the guys who complain about a rod being 4-5 ounces heavier than another rod and wont use it because its too heavy. Be a man guys its fishing!!!! Save your coin and support your local tackle shop or rod builder.

Are you impressed by using the wrong tool for the job?
Im sorry but i will gladly jump in my boat powered by a Japanese company(yamaha) and steam to wherever the fish may be and cast my Japanese reel(daiwa or shimano) into the water with my japanese hook(gamakatsu) and catch whatever i damn well please! If it wasnt for Souteast asian(japan, korea) design and idea's for the fishing world we wouldn't be where we are today as far as the technology goes! I tip my hat to kil for having the ambition and fortitude to go over there and find out new and better products for specialty fishing as far as jigging and popping go! Sorry but you will never see me using a penn9500ss with a penn slammer rod trying to land a 150# tuna! Now not to say there isn't some quality tackle made here in the US but overall year after year the Asian equipment performs great!
why can't we find an american company and help them? i do have stuff from over seas... just asking a questions

When is it gonna stop? Whats gonna be the next "must have" tool for fishing. I caught my share of fish on incorrect tools for many years. I dont agree with you at all that its the right tool. The rods that bend in half look cool and thats what sells. Those pencil rods and pocket reels are not for me. They dont catch anymore fish than an old garage sale rod would. Like i said before....support your local bait shop!!!!
Man oh man where this thread went I dont know or understand.

But for example,I am having a rod custom built for my personal use by a well known local builder and I am having another two Lami's built to my specs and new graphite reel seats/hypalon grips installed amonsg other things by that same rod builder but where do you think all the components for these rods come from????Thats right China/Taiwan/Japan/ Would you be happier if the components where coming from Australia or perhaps Canada or Mexico? I agree with you that 2oz's-4oz's doesnt make any differance to me but can you blame the guys using these rods for wanting the "BEST" that is offered and is out there right now??? NO,I dont think so,it is there choice just like it is your choice to use what you want to use,Thats why theres vanilla and chocolate because people have different tastes.:)
You lift 200 lb logs all day,4 oz is nothing to you:wave:
Steve,Correction!

You lift 200 lb logs all day,4 oz is nothing to you:wave:
Brian lifts 200lb logs all day all I do is throw them down all day!!!!:p:D
Philly.

Unfortunatly,I believe that most US company's are to closed minded and do not think outside of the box so to speak. When all the Korean and Japanese products invade the marketplace maybe they will wake up and smell the coffee.:) But as I said the Seeker Hercules blanks seem to be out of this world and up to par with any jigging rod on the market today. Also Accurate has A jigging/popping/conv/spinning rods on the market but I do not know where they are made and know little about them but suspect they are chinese made but am unsure.:)
Wow, what is going on here ? I think you guys have cabin fever already. :) I really don't care whether it is made in the US, Japan or Korea as I am looking for better products. Not all Korean tackles products are good as not all US products are good. A friend of mine asked the opinion of Korean 'Banax' electric reels as it looks fancy and I recommended not to buy the reel as there are still many problems with the reel.
'new carbon' Black Hole rods/blanks are real. I visited the company to check the rods/blanks they make and how they operate.
I didn't know no other rod company use more Fuji guides than the Company in the world. Who said rod making are easy and they can make any action rods ? The chief rod designer told me they use about 300 different materials and they should know the characteristics of each material completely.

I was in awe when I saw their sample room.
