Friday afternoon while doing the loop around the yard i noticed 3 guys on a 16 foot boat with lots of nets and weird gadgets hanging on there boat. They had my interest so as they drifted along i followed by truck. They were about 50 yards off our bulkhead.Each guy at turn was doing something that i couldn't see.After a few minutes one guy gets up carrying one heck of a striper an easy 40 inch plus lowering to the water to revieve it.When the striper did its tail came out of the water like a mermaids on movie and the fish was gone. Still watching the boat the events happened again. This time the fish was even bigger then the previous one at 50 inch plus. I've worked here over 30 years and these monsters are right under my nose.I guess the guys were with some type of governmental research team. Thats a hell of a job !

Sounds like Pa. Fish and Game doing a fish study with the electric shocker they use to stun the fish, then they capture the fish, weigh them, take scale samples and release the fish unharmed.

That is exactly what it is. They do this study every year and provide data to the ASMFC.

Gene, are these fish like salmon? Do the same fish spawn in the same place every year? Or, do they just make a right turn when 'it feels good to them'?

Can fish that spawn in the Delaware River this year spawn in the Chesapeake Bay next year?

Are the males the same way?

I'm wondering how this affects the spread of fish hanlder's bacteria.

Tell these guys to head behind the Phila air port and they can count the 50# breeders that being taken to god knows where every night.I called the fish and game,told lack of man power is the problem.Called fox news as suggested,no phone call back.Makes me sick.F-ing POACHERS!Sorry to vent,but this is not going to stop until we get some real help.Every year this happens.No speak english.

I can't believe that there has been no response to those poachers yet from fish and game or the guy from Fox who said he had the time to investigate and expose the "illegal" fishermen.
What could Pa. F&G possibly have to do during this time of year that is more important than protecting these spawning cows from poachers?

i'm sorry but, i have to speak up here!!!
this is why i beleave there should be a maximum on the two fish limit. what ever lenth it would be,for discussions sake lets say 40 inches. those breeders should be treated like GOLD. thats our future. need i say anymore?

With that airport poachers thing it's ashame we don't have any Bass barners on the law enforcement staff.Even if not with the Philly district they could call in a favor to patrol around the airport. I'm not sure if the poachers can get in at Fort Mifflin.Hey we play by the RULES !!!!

If your are in your boat in this area you will be boarded by the Fish and Game, NJ state police and Philly police as well as the Coast guard. They are all looking to give you some kind of fine. I realize the safety aspect too. I guess that because I can pay my fine and the illegal poachers cannot I am the better target. A friend works maintenance at the airport and calls to report he hears gunfire. At least it gets the police onsite. Just another reason to chase these illegal aliens out of town and country.

Who wants to fish behind the airport this week,about 25 barners should be able to put a stop to this, and lets let the authorities know about the possible trouble to be, and i'm sure they will show up!

Count me in Iggy - I hate poachers and slob fishermen. I make certain that if I keep a fish I eat it or it gets eaten. I only keep one or two each trip and feel great about the fish that I release.

Lets chase out some poachers!

Must raise fines,as it was explained to me first fish fifty bucks,twenty bucks each one after that.
Should be 300.00 bucks first one,one hundred each one after.My source explained to me they will approach PA legislaters to increase fines etc.
Pa residents NEED to complain as well,so contact your reps/senators.
