Fished the ocean a little south of LEI today. Tally was 4 keeper flounder, 10 or so c-bass(had about 30 throwbacks) and a bunch of croakers inshore. All flounder and c-bass were just about right on the wreck in 65 ft of water. The flounder were all on Gulp New Penny Shrimp on a bare hook, c-bass were on Gulp and squid.

Please dont take this the wrong way and thanks for the report. More than a few times a year I hear people at my dock talking about fishing at "the" wreck. They dont mean any wreck outside LEI they mean a certain wreck that when they leave the inlet they go to "the" wreck(always said like its the only one out there) Just never knew what they were talking about? WR2? Wish I was out there today with you guys-probably the last fishable day for awhile. Thanks again for the report.

There are a whole bunch of wrecks off of the south end of LBI and north end of Brig. WR2 is the wreck buoy which can be a good flounder spot but I go by depth alot more than a particular wreck when I fish. If c-bass are loaded up on one wreck at 65 ft they are usually thick at another in the same depth, unless you are fishing at one of the artifical reefs or well publicized wrecks which at times can get overfished.

Thanks for the comeback Joe. I know there are a ton of wrecks out there-we fish sea bass and tog alot. The way you put your first post I thought you may be talking about "the" wreck that these other guys talk about(probably wreck bouy). I swear they talk like its the only one out there and I never wanted to make anybody feel stupid at the dock so I dont ask. For us the wreck fishing hasnt even started yet and should go to the end of Dec. this year. What piece were you on? I dont think youd be giving up too much cause as you know the numbers in the books and charts are way off and you gotta spend the time to find em!

By the way do you ever fish the deepwater wrecks-say 150-200'? We've always been inshore but with a bigger boat this year I may go looking for my first Jersey cod or pollack soon or in the spring.

Bob, I fished a piece of bottom I found a couple years ago while drifting for flounder. The only time I fish the deepwater wrecks is in the winter on a head boat. I just don't feel comfortable that far offshore once it gets cold.

Hello emily lynn I fish deepwater wrecks all summer from 148 ft to 256 ft on aug,27th fish 30+ miles off had 14 codfish most were 5 to 8 pounds but one was 26.2 pounds.only problem with deep water wrecks is you kill alot of fish .Yes i bleed off the air but how many of them really make it back to the bottom.the other problem is the ling, lots of them I give them away.totally different than anchoring in shallow water, you need lots of line, and more chain.but I like codfish and will travel 60 miles to catch them

Thanks for the comeback. Its like pullin teeth to get anybody to talk about cod in Jersey. I know they are out there but most wont run that far to get em-I will. Most people laugh at you and others stop talking reel quick. Done a ton of research over the last two years and have more than a few I want to try. Big hooks and whole surf clam keep some ling away? Anyway an email is coming your way.
