Last couple years when I went up to R.I. to rock hop, I saw the nearshore boats trolling long surgical tubes tipped with what looked like sandworms and murdering the bass... is this just a locally effective tactic?..... or do any of you guys troll these big tubes this way with succes?

Tube and worm method is huge up north, aparently the trick is to troll them super slow around structure. I was thinking about giving the slow troll a shot off the back of the kayak.

Ed,
the NJ Angler ran an article on it last year.. the author, John Lutchka is doing a seminar TONIGHT on wire line trolling at STRIPER NIGHT, and I am sure he would not mind a few ???? on the tube-n-worm.

I still have a variety of big tubes from my Del River trolling days. From 12", 18" & 24" in red and black .. never used the added worm.
Some of the guys out of CM drag these and we trolled them in Rock Hall, MD.
Had great luck in the River but last year dragged out front of our area with no luck.
Will try again as soon as get the Tub in the water.
