Weather has gotten worse down there for this weekend, wind
has picked up, looking to make a decision on Friday.

Costs is splitting fuel to get down there, food, and room.
500 miles round trip, truck pulling boat gets 10 mpg, (50 gallons)
gas for boat depends on how far we go, running out of Rudees inlet
heard the tuna and stripers were close.

Friday is not fishable, wind high
Sat is iffy, sun is better
Was thinking of driving down Friday night fishing Sat and Sun, coming
home Sun night.

Hey Kil,

Have you been down there yet,
I have been checking reports and talking to people everyday down there.

Kevin
Two professional tuna fishermen I know fished last two days and got nothing.
Most boats didn't get tuna.
It could be slow days, but they probably migrated to south now.
A few bluefin in 80" were landed out of Oregon Inlet.
A Capt out of Hatteras had two nice bluefin on jigs on Sun and Mon, but both tuna pulled the hooks. He said he marked good, but they were not biting mood.l

Kevin,

Would also be interested in a NC trip, let me know if that's something you'd consider. Would you head that far?

Thanks.

Pete,

Don't take my boat to NC for several reasons, hate putting the miles
on my trailer, hate the Oregon Inlet, and most importantly, much
much bigger area to find fish in. Been there before, fish could be
anywhere.

Better to use a local Capt that knows the waters, and more importantly,
has contacts with the other Capts to get direct intel.

Thanks
Kevin

Hi Kil,

You could be right, but I said the same thing after I saw they killed them
Jan 1, then it slacked off, then they killed them again the weekend
after. From the reports, there is still a ton of bait of VA Beach, might
hold them there.

VA Beach reports listed two bluefin taken yesterday, but as you
say, out of how many boats targeting them, the majority of boats
most likely came up empty.

When are you going down to NC?

The tuna have been pushing south. Should be in my backyard by the weekend.
Last report was just north of OI yesterday. :)
Hey Capt John,

I usually wait till mid March to head down there.

Also heard May is good for yellow fin

When do you think is the best time for each

Kevin we where just awarded work at the USACE base in Virginia Beach, I need to get down and do an extensive survey before we start - maybe kill two birds with one stone... shoot me a PM if you are still thinking about heading down.

I am hearing lots of boats, lots of searching, little to show for it but sometimes that's fishing. Let me know.
