Don't let anxiety get the best of you. I did that last year with a 34 Silverton I bought. I sucked it up and paid the marina to paint it...$340 for a thinned out gallon of paint. I could see through the paint layer as I had scraped the bottom clean in spots. They did not even cut is around the shafts and rudders, etc. The most piss poor job I have ever seen. I initially had them do it as it was a condition of my winter storage, but after scheduling the work, I was told that I could have done it myself. And had I waited another week to launch the boat, i could have saved $200 and had a much better job done.
There is no better way to get real intimate with your hull than by painting it. I remember when I bought my Shamrock, the seller wanted to paint the bottom one last time...I was more then happy to grant him his wish...saved me $100.
