I figured I give a report while I am down here just in case anyone else is coming down. I flew out Sat Morning and fished Sunday.Monday and we have another trip booked for tom.We booked through Costa Rica Dreams, and fishing a 35' Cabo. The mates are great, not sure about the Capt yet. Fishing has been VERY VERY slow. Sunday we had 2 sails and one Mahi.Monday was very slow,we only managed one sail and one mahi, and raised maybe 3 others. It was so slow that the Capt actually took us bottom fishing in the afternoon.Since the finish of the tournament down here on Sat,the bite has been way off. After hearing many of my friends brag how great the fishing has been down here over the years with many days of 15 -30 hookups I am kind of disappointed with the fishing. We are staying at the Marriot here and I really love the place. Having a good time despite the extremely poor fishing.

I forgot to add, we were going to book an inshore trip today but due to the fact the water has gotten so warm they can't even make bait,so they told us to go sit by the pool and have drinks.
Dashing Dan,they didn't find your Shimano drag knob,he said it's still on the botttom.

It has been a slow season with the warmer temps.not just CR but Guat. and Panama too! Some boats at Los Suenos making the run are getting better numbers but not great 5-8 fish and a couple in the teens. Not the norm..

damn, that's a bummer to hear. I'm going out tomorrow on a CC out of los suenos...I'd be happy with what is considered a slow day down here. Good luck tomorrow.

In the meantime, the fishing from shore is pretty good. Casted from some rocks out on the point this afternoon and had a few shots at roosters, jacks, and had a solid cubera snapper swallow my popper right next to my feet, all within an hour or two. Great way to spend the afternoons.

After all the aggravation getting tackle down to Panama in Dec I didn't want to deal with that this trip. The new highway is open and very nice, saves alot of time from what the driver told us. I was in the Beatle Bar last night
We are going to feel out the Capt in the am and ask about running the extra mile to put us on the fish. :fighting:

Hey John hope you get em good! The water was very warm when we where there, I experienced it first hand when i went swimming for my drag knob :D

If you can't make bait there is a little fishing village in a cove about 2 miles north of White Rock, they have a pen of blue runners and they sell them for $4 each  if you are stuck.

como se dice, "skunk" en espanol? Found acres of skipjack late in the afternoon (wish i had a little spinner), then had a sail hit the short and came unbuttoned after a few jumps, and that's about it. It seemed like it started to heat up in the evening, more life and more freejumpers. Saw a lot of sailfish on the way in within 5nm of land. That's fishin for ya, even in paradise. Just a real bummer, been waiting years to fish out of here. Seemed like most boats had one or two releases, along with a mahi.

Fillet 1, I'm just messing around with a 7' ugly stik and a shimano saragosa 8000 spooled with braid. It seemed like they really like metal more than poppers/plugs. Just bring something that can cast 2oz pretty far...i wish i had something a little bit stiffer, but the ugly stik is indestructable for travel. Hopping on a panga tomorrow for some roosters/jacks, hopefully get a few.

I always keep an eye on the boys in los suenous. i lived out there 3 seasons ago the bite has been off most of the year. like everyone said el nino. guys fishing the Tournement had tough running that far too the realse counts were down from previous years. Just a cycle I guess you can take satisfaction that its not snowing down there. good luck and have fun.
