Mackeral are in!!!!

Went on the Miss Belmar Princess yesterday with Rob and Anthony to load up on shark bait - had a full cooler by 12 and another 1/4 cooler (only Anthony fished after 1st cooler was full) by 2. Tally was around 250 macks - ready for May!!!

I have been starting my year off on the Miss Belmar for years now. I will be heading out this Tuesday/Wednesday. I went out on his first trip this year and only caught a few.

This upcoming week and the one or two after have been great weeks according to my logs for the Macks. If you go try to avoid the weekend - when he is catching he will put 120+ people on that boat on a Saturday or Sunday.

Warm cloths, heavy sinkers and you are better off leaving the braid at home. Great way to load up bait for the season ahead.

Miss Belmar Princess charges $60 for the Mackeral trip that lasts from 7:30-3:30 but capt. stayed out till around 4 and got back to thedock around 5. Go to www.missbelmar.com and click on the discount page to print a $5 off coupon.

Seeing that video brought back fond memories of April many moons ago. I wish the Spring run would return so I can take my 6 year old on what used to be the first and most anticipated trip of the year

Ovrtime, the spring run can be quick, but in the past the spring runs seem to have lasted longer than the fall ones. Even so, it's only a matter of weeks. A lot depends on the weather patterns, temps, and their food source, which could be anchovies at this time. They're also in the spawn period.

The sizes could get bigger if you wait a bit, but SanibelFisher made a good point. Right now is the time to go.

As for how far out, right now it's probably about 5-10 miles. I've gotten them as close as 1 mile to the beach, and remember one time on Bogan's boat he ran out 35 miles due E to get us into the last of them towards the end of the run.
