I just put on a new Alpha drive (upper) on the back of my boat and silly me I forgot to install the shifter rod/sleve. I can't get it in with the drive in place so I figured I would simply remove the new drive put the rod in and reinstall the drive. NOPE You see I had to use the nuts to pull the drive on the last 1/8 inch and now I can't get the dang thing off. Anyone have any ideas of how I can either get the drive off or install the shifter rod?? I don't want to pull the motor and bang the new drive out from the inside. There has to be another way. Please help....Thanks

with the lower unit in place and the trim cylinders off, you can lift and drop the unit to make it come loose at the top. You don't have to be very aggressive doing this. Usually a couple of drops breaks them loose.
