I was curious if anyone has ever used Mullet rigs for rigging dead and artificial eels . I would definitely remove the float, add a bullet weight and a 5.0-6.0 octopus hook at the nose. Any better Ideas welcome ?

Do you think it would impede the action of the eel in the current ?

I love to think outside the box, however, I think a rigging needle and some 50# dacron would work out better for you. You will end up with a rigid snake??????

Also, what exactly are you trying to hook with the rear hooks? Bluefish? Shorts? Seems like you would not want to toss a rigged eel or big artificial if the demon eyes are around??

Ryan I thought it might be a quick way to rig a dead eel, on the beach or jetty. I like fishing them live and they are pretty hardy but, you know occasionally they die when your out there. I quess your right it would impede the purpose for using a long supple bait. I have mullet rigs that I hardly ever use because I don't dead bait fish too often . Just trying to think of a way to get them in the mix.

maybe shorter the mullet rig by half and swim that along a jetty? that wouldbe cool!

Thats what I was thinking,...with just a nose hooked dead eel as you drag it along the jetty, if it gets hung up,more often than not you lose the eel. Plus if you do get into yellow eyes they aren't gonna bite thru the mullet rig.

45lb striper on dead eel

One of my classic stories fishing IBSP in the late Fall.
One of the guys we always saw on the island; "Badger" was his nickname. He had a 12' DelRay capover. Beautiful rig.
He caught a 45lber on a dead ell rigged on a mullet rig, dead sticked in the sandspike..
He thought he had a monster blue.

I never considered it, but interesting idea...

I have a tub of gulp 8" eels in the silver mud color, are these worth spring fishing in the D?

I use the black ones, they work....But live eels are the best..I love to see the Rod tip quiver and the line move as the eel gets excited, when a Bass eyeballs him..

Get them in the mix by taking them home and rigging them. Carry a few rigged on the next trip in case you run out of live.

Deadsticked 45# bass on a mullet rigged eel - I would like to rescind my previous post?
