I was thinking about going down to NC for AJ jigging as the reports were great. After John(Jflore)'s excellent AJ jigging out of Wilminton, NC, I didn't want to wait any longer. :)
Amberjack jigging out of Wilington, NC is world class in terms of qualtity and quality. We had utp 85 lbs on jigs, but I was told there are numerous AJ over 100 lbs.
I tested new Shimanos' Saragosa 18000F spinning reels an fought more than a dozen AJ in 40 - 70 lbs range without any problem.
I have no doubt the reel will be a big hit among tuna popping fishermen who don't want to spend money for Stella or Saltiga.
Here are pictues of our trip.

Joe, I am glad Capt Dom becomes a sponsor of thebassbarn.
He loves fishing as much as I do. :)
I had many great trips with him to catch squid, fluke, blackfish and tuna.
In fact it was on his boat I had two swordfish on jigs.

John, I agree with you. It is world class AJ jigging.
The tuna I caught is a nice blackfin. It will be great to catch yellowfin on jigs/poppers along with big AJ. :) Yong broke the brand new jigging rod as you used on his first try. I think it is defected rod. He also broke Saltiga Z4500 on the trip. He broke $1000 worth of tackle to fight big AJ, but he still was happy to land a 85 lbs AJ along with countless AJ. :)

Man, I would LOVE to catch an AJ someday!

Always heard the stories of them putting a bad hurting on ya. Looks like they did just that in the pics. Good stuff!

philly,
I only know of them being smoked and they make fish dip with it.
Fish dip is good!
