I yanked my NavNet off the boat when I pulled it the other day... the screen is so bad I can hardly see it even with my poloroids off!

Need someone to replace the screen and run the updates... anybody in my neighborhood get a recommendation from the crew?

I have had a couple units with scrached up anti-glare coats on the screens,I just removed the coating and the screen looks new!!
I haven't noticed any problems in bright sunlight after doing this.

A freind showed me a neat trick to do this
Get a soft rag,mix a small amount of collenite metal wax with some collenite fleet wax(You can dab them both on the rag together)
Rub in into the screen in small circles with a good amount of pressure and the coating will go away leaving a nice new screen:thumbsup:
Give it a shot,You won't be sorry!

Thanks CBad.... I think that even though the screen is my main complaint, I am going to have someone that knows what they are doing (which is certainy not me) give it the once over.

I called Furuno down in Md. this morning.

They told me to box it up and send it out to their service facility in Camas, WA. They will do an evaluation on it for $100, then apply that amount to any costs involved in repairing the unit.... sounded pretty reasonable to me. Plus I know that this unit has not ever had a software update (which is free, incidently).

So it is going out tomorrow.... I will keep everyone posted on it's progress (costs and recommendations, time it takes to get fixed, customer service, etc)....

While you are at it, you might inquire about having your waypoints backed up. :)

Ed,
Make sure to back up those way points onto a blank compact flash card. This way all those "secret" hot spots won't be lost:thumbsup:
If you need help I have an extra flashcard that has lots of memory for all those hot spots:D
I just put a big "X" on the side of the boat and hope nobody sees it ;)
