Now that we are only days away from the official start (backbays/inlets striped bass fishing)here in New Jersey for 2006,and the anticipation is very high due to the mild winter be have been having, the chances that some fish will be hungry by then is a good bet. I just want to remind everyone that some new laws are in place this year and to the seasoned fishermen some big changes..
------------------------------------------------
Striped Bass
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) announces a new recreational size limit for the harvest of striped bass. The new measure maintains New Jersey's compliance with the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission's (ASMFC) Fisheries Management Plan for striped bass.
The new requirement signed into law by Governor Richard J. Cody, allows anglers to take two striped bass each day, each equal to or greater than 28 inches. The statute includes the harvest of striped bass in any waters of the state.
The regulations governing recreational striped bass fishing in New Jersey are set by state legislation. Previously, under the former recreational striped bass fishing regulations, New Jersey anglers were allowed to keep one fish each day measuring 24 inches or greater to less than 28 inches and a second fish 34 inches or greater.
Winter Flounder
The season for 2006 will run from March 23 through May 21. In addition, the recreational minimum size limit has increased from 11 to 12 inches and the recreational possession limit has changed from no limit to 10 fish.
-------------------------------------------------
So what this really means is the fact that alot of undersize fish will be caught early in the season and the upmost care is needed while fighting, landing and releasing these fish for the future.. Who knows this springs release can be this falls keeper.. Make sure you give these fish a chance...
Good Luck To Everyone Venturing Out Come 3/1/06 and into the Spring.. I will make sure the weekly fishing report threads are updated and anchored on top of this forum through out the entire season..
Thanks,,,
