Any information would be helpful. I have fished the Roanoke River Rapids for the spring spawn run and had a great time. When are they going to show up around New Hope? I am assuming live Herring are the best bet? Are there spots where it is open enough to catch from shore? How about a Kayak? Any water not too fast moving where I could take my yak out?
Thanks in advance.

Most years the stripers won't reach that area of the river til about the end of April or first week in May. If you cross over the bridge into Lambertville there are several access points on the Jersey side where you can fish from shore and/or launch your yak. The river can be extremely dangerous at that time of year depending upon the amount of rain/snow melt making its way to the river. There are also two boat launches further south (Yardley area) on the PA side where you could launch and have some action. Once the herring are in, that is often the only thing the bass will eat.

Fly Fish,I usually fish the Trenton area. They have a nice ramp not far from the Trenton thunder ball park. The Yardley ramp is also a good area. The islands serve as a break when the water is high. The fish like to hang behind the islands to get out of the current.Live herring are your best bet for big fish but you will catch alot on fresh chunk also. They should be around New Hope by late April early May depending on the water temp and flow level. What did you use to get them on in the Roanoke? Were is that area anyway. I'm not familiar with that area.

Having fished around the Yardley/Scudders Falls area, I can tell you if you can't get herring try a Zara Spook in silver or white any time after sunrise starting about mid-May. Fantastic.
The first time your popper gets slapped 2 feet in the air--God, what a feeling.
COME ON MAY!!!!!!!!!

There is a ramp right behind the Lambertville Inn on the Jersey side that is public if you want to put in... ditto on watch where you are going.. if the river is honking that wing dam can come up awful fast.. go with a double anchor if hooking up near it... the bottom there is hard to get a hook in up near the bridge..

Thanks Guys. Can't wait for them stripes to start running!!!
Channel, Roanoke River Rapids is in Roanoke, VA. They start their spring run into the fresh water in the next couple of weeks. I went a couple of years ago and had a blast. We used sabiki rigs to get the herring and live-lined them out for the big guys. What a great time. thanks again for all of the info guys!
