NCBBA is asking that anyone with a phone make some calls to gain support for bills S1557/HR718. These would essentially eliminate the judge issued consent decree and restore beach acces to what it was prior to May 2008. AKA the good old days when we (fisherman and the park service) were operating under the interim managment plan that was designed to be protective of wildlife but also provide access for mobile surf fishing.
The Senate bill, which is sitting in an Energy & Natural Resource committee, is the most pressing as action is likely very soon. Both NC Senators support the bill and NCBBA think they have support from quite a few others. We can win this one. :fighting:
Senator Menendez (NJ) is on this committee. Call his office at 202-224-4744 and tell him to support S1557 on behalf of the 1,000's of NJ anglers that travel to the Cape Hatteras National Seashore to vacation and surf fish.
Then call Senator Bingamen (NM), who is the committe chair, and tell him that this is important to you and that this legislation should be acted upon ASAP so as to not lose the spring/summer fishing season. Fisherman dont deserve to lose it and the local, small fishing village, economies cant sustain much more. Bingamen's phone number is 202-224-5521.
I made several calls earlier today and it was quick & painless.
