fished all day today, covered all kinds of structure at every depth with just about every pattern and color you could think of.. didn't see so much as a baitfish. called it quits around 1:30. not much of a first trip to nj for us, might not be comin back if this is what it's like... thanks anyway to cape may ray for the useful info on ramps and such...

Sorry to hear you had a tough first time trip to the area. We had a tough saturday morning on a fly trip. Fish hit plugs, but just were not taking the flies like they were the days before. Don't know if it was the new moon tides, super high at night that made the fish fill up during the night and then made them less aggressive in the morning. Again best times are before the sun comes up and as it is going down into the darkness. We have been having our best luck in the shallow areas at that time as the fish come in to feed on the bait.

Don't feel so bad. A lot of us locals get skunked too. :D

First problem, you fished all DAY. Especially with how hot and sunny it's been, the fishies won't bite well in the hot bright sun. Like Ray said, try low light or the night next time. You'll have much better luck. If you notice on a lot of reports pages (not just fly guys, but pluggers and such), the pics are taken in the dark ;) .

Second, Memorial Day Weekend. There is SO much boat traffic behind OC during this weekend, I'd be surprised if anyone caught anything other than searobins.

thanks guys, just not used to not getting any fish at all.... there's places we fish during the day on the eastern shore of md that you could bet the next mortgage payment on, at least for some kind of fish. we just weren't used to seeing so much "fishy" structure so devoid of of fish. very frustrating after traveling 2 hours for no reward. oh well, live and learn.
