i have caught some pretty nice stripers from my boat in the rips but never considered fishing for them around my home port which is located in longport. i have heard of people catching them in risley channel,margate,ventor and behind ocean city. i was wondering what anybody thinks of this because i would like to stay closer to my port instead of trailering my boat to cape may.when fishing for them in the back what would be a good bait to try while being anchored/drifting. i normally use eels or clams while in the rips but never considered any top water plugs. would it be better to fish the sod or anchor near the longport bridge?

Same thing you use down there. Chunk the brides at night or drift them with eels at night. You'll be pleasantly surprised. The inlet (G.E.) has a nice rip for eeling and a couple nice bars (North bar,South bar) that are very productive when chunked during the fall run. Also working eels in the wash of the bars is great, just be careful. I had a fantastic fall in that inlet last year, and even my 8 yr old son was picking up nice bass.
When it gets going I'd be more than happy to take you for a fishin trip and show you some things, but not everything.

that sounds great we can always jump on my boat as well. i would love to learn a little more about my port when it comes to stripers instead of driving 2 hours.i will keep in touch.

also what is the best time? i have trailered my boat to the rips leaving my house at 3 am and leaving the dock at 5. had fish all day but something tells me i should go out early evening and fish all night when it comes to the back bay areas. also never fished my port for weakies at night i heard it is actually pretty good.
