I am for a saltwater license if it is kept below $20 a year and at least half the money is directed back to help NJ anglers/fisheries.
I purchase a freshwater license each year and feel as though at least some of the money is being used to better the fisheries in our state.
If they can build some new boat ramps, hire a few more conservation officers, and improve the science used to make our regulations, I'll gladly pay for a license.

What's your opinion Steve?

it's no doubt that the funds will be used improperly or mismanged or used to fund some other project entirely since the government is involved. these are the same people who are paying on average $2500 per roof to have a tarp put on it while suppling the contractors w/ the tarp in the areas hit by the hurricanes. the most important part of a license is it gives us an accountting of numbers of rec fishermen. this translates into dollars we spend. exact numbers, not estimates. this is what carries weight in any debate.

I am right on the same page as you Frank.
You make some very good points "For"..
I do have reservations about giving anymore additional money to the state or goverment these days as do most americans..It seems everytime you turn around you are being tax for one thing or another. I mean Cig.Tax,Gas Tax etc.,is just nuts here in this state. And now these gentlemenn running for governor are stating 40% increase over 4 yrs on property tax rebates. They just took over half away from us.Tax rates are out of hand.. Will I make it another 4 yrs in Jersey, "I don't know".

Still on the fense I quess with my vote here..

Against,

BOHICA

my rear is sore enough

over 4K property taxes for us vs. 500 down south????

learn to better utilize the money currently taken.

If not mistaken, X amount of all fishing related items has 'some kinda xtra' built into the price already.

if they want to keep tabs, let me fill some thing out on my Tax return, your not suposed to lie ;)

Do you Saltwater Fish Yes. No.
Right next to would you like to donate to the presidential election fund NO.

Also it's still would be a ball park # as charter and party boats would not require passengers to obtain one. Logs, yeah......but

I would be for it, if I knew that the money was going to fund fish management projects that would benefit the guy paying for the license.

Very Good Point Brian....

There would have to be something or someone in place to be held accoutable for the amount of money that would be generated...

I'm against!!

I agree with Design. They take enough of our hard earned money  and with the cost of living going up and up pretty soon there are anglers that are not going to be able to fish b/c it is going to be food first and bait and tackle second and there is not going to be much for bait and tackle after bills and food shopping and filling up the fuel tank in you vehicle.

Guess what, the hand writing is on the wall. There will be a SW fishing license, hopefully on the state level as opposed to the Feds (for inshore species) There is already a SW license for offshore fishing, permits required etc.

We've screamed loud and clear to the Feds that the MRFSS is terrible. In states without a SW license, NJ etc., the feds will gather the data for us, but the only mechanism that is available is to register everyone who fishes and that takes money and where will the money come from? SW fishing license, UNLESS the state in question already has a SW license in effect, such as VA does.

That is why I favor a STATE SW fishing license.

It looks like they are going to shove it down our throats one way or another. It looks like if a state has a license that will provide the information that they want. If a license has to be, I would rather it be a State License and the moneys dedicated to the fisheries resource. Atleast the money would have some benifit to our state.
