I currently have a 23 w/a with a 2002 ox66 200hp . The prop is 14-1/2 x 17 . At wot i'm at 5200 rpm . Boat is used for fishing and tubing . Should i size down to a 15" pitch and put my rpms around 5600 or just leave it alone? All opinions appreciated .

i think your max is 5500rpm which makes you right there. check your manuel.i have a 2001 ox66 200 and thats what mine is and i have the same size prop in ss and i do hit 5400 rpm.the original prop was a 19m which i only hit 5100.do you have trim tabs?
normally you should gain 200rpm- 300rpm when going down one size.is your prop ss or aluminum.aluminum will flex but if your running shallow water where you could possibly hit bottom, stay with the aluminum, less chance of damaging lower unit.the smaller will give you better hole shot but you may loose some at the top end.

4fun thanks for your input . I DID CHECK MY MANUEL AND YOUR RIGHT WITH THE 5500 . I WAS THINKING IT WAS 5600 .I DO HAVE A ALUMINUM PROP . WAS THINKING OF SS BUT I DO RUN UP THE RIVERS WERE IT GETS SHALLOW.I HAVE TRIM TABS AND WHEN I TRIM IT OUT I GET HIGHER RPMS AND LOWER SPEED . THATS WHY I WAS THINKING OF A DIFFERENT PROP TO PUT ME ON THE 55OO . MIGHT BE BETTER TO TO LEAVE THINGS ALONE .

No, you need to drop back to a 15" pitch prop. That thing about alum props flexing comes from the old days before the new prop designes..

Only taching to 5200 you are not seeing the fun in your engine. 2" less pitch will get the boat on plane in half the time. You'll see much better throttle response thru-out the entire range. you'll see better top end and better fuel mileage at cruising rpms.
