Looking to avoid the school of hard knocks (for once).

For stripers, I usually troll 2 wire line set ups with umbrellas or spoons off both stern rod holders with out rodders. I'd like to add two more lines to my spread but am not confortable with the potential for tangling. In addition to wire lines at the stern, has anyone tried to use downriggers with umbrellas off the port and starboard forward cockpit rod holders? The theory looks good on paper, but...

I have done it on occasion but one time a 6 LB bluefish got tangled on the wire about 25 wraps had to hand line the fish and discard the wire line too many kinks. So now it is either 2 bunker spoons one on each side on an out rodder or a umbrella in combo. If I use the down riggers it is in the bay where I need to adjust the depth for what ever reason.

What iss the beam on your boat? I have almost 15. Try your idea once -- sounded good to me also. Total mess total nightmare --- lost the wire on one rod cause of kinks.

two wire poles works perfect.

Thanks guys! That's the type of information I was looking for. "You can try it, but I don't recommend it". I have an 11' beam, so it would probably be a nightmare. Looks like I'm sticking with 2 wire lines.

Trolling

I run 2 wire lines (spood/umbrella) on gunnel mount out rig style pole holders and will sometimes if I have enough line out drop a Streach from the transom center pole holder keeping that one much shorter then the others. It can be done but having a quick crew and paying attention is real important. Streach usually winds up with Bluefish. For Me trying it is sometimes not worth it and sometimes it is
