I never really thought about that. I think since there are plenty of places to get them out in the ocean, I'd probably put it in the back not too far from an inlet. Then there would be a place to get them when it's rough out front. I have a friend who did that with some wash machines and it's very productive.
I was dreaming on a smaller scale, but after reading the two posts, the sky seemed like the limit..suddenly everything I dreamed about was looked at in terms of weather or not it would make a good component to the reef? I finally came up with trash cans half filled with concrete? And in my dream I named the reef " The Structure of Love " But hope to rename it "The Hog Tautog Hotel" later this year. Thanks Keeper Seeker and Aimless, can't wait for dream time...
I never thought of the trash can idea. I might have to work on that. Maybe put some holes in them so water would flow thru. Plastic cans might do the job and last forever. I just wouldn't put them right in the channel.
Remember that the artificial reef cause in the Gulf was started by charter captains who lugged washers, grills, refrigerators, and used cars out to "secret spots."
While illegal, inshore FADs are an awesome idea.
